As @ActuallyDenz noted in the Game Deals thread, Steam have put up a timetable for various Showcases and whatnot. I thought it might be a good idea to have a separate thread where we can post any and all information gleaned from the various events and announcements

Scientists have discovered a correlation between quantity of new game announcements and the decreasing nature of denz bank balance

Paradox are pretty good at grand strategy games, so seeing that they've managed to get their hands on a licence for Star Trek, I'm interested to see what they come up with.

Hoping for a spiritual successor to Birth of the Federation.

Watch whatever Devolver are going to do, it's always a completely bonkers madhouse of crazy splashed together and genuinely hilarious

this looks interesting

Starfield is going to be absolutely huge, I have absolutely no doubt, the amount of development work that's gone into it, procedurally generated worlds ala No Man's Sky, but really in depth content more tailored to action.

Development started in 2015, but they didn't announce they were working on it until 2018 when it was out of pre-production. That's 9 years in development pretty much until it's release date, that's a LOT of work!

And Bethesda NEED Starfield to be an unmitigated success, this could be the IP that takes them forward for the next 20 years like WoW has done up until now.

what are the odds of a botched launch and a massive day one patch

Unfortunately probably 100%

Although saying that, certainly the Doom titles were quite frankly impeccable on release, think that can be said, @ActuallyDenz didn't you play Ghostwire? How was that on release?

The new Redfall doesn't look like it's doing too well at all: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1294810/Redfall/

I'd separate Bethesda's publishing wing from their development wing when discussing their games, as there's often a large difference in how the games turn out.

Starfield is being developed by Bethesda as an open world RPG along the lines of the Elder Scrolls & Fallout games, and so my expectations for Starfield are going to be in line with those games. I'm expecting a gorgeous looking world that will feel like it's living and breathing around you. It'll be very immersive. It will, to quote Todd Howard, "just work". Except that certain parts of the world won't work properly and the games will almost certainly need unofficial patches and/or mods to really get the best out of them, just as the likes of Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Fallout 4 have all needed in their time. Starfield could well be something special, but it'll likely need the community to help get it there. The bare bones of what Bethesda put out will be pretty good though.

Bethesda's publishing wing has a number of long-standing relationship with developers such as id, who've put out the Doom and Wolfenstein reboots. Wolfenstein: Youngblood was the weakest of the series by some way, largely because it was made by Arkane's Lyon studio who had previously done Dishonored 2 and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Lyon is where the bulk of Arkane's better staff are currently based. Before Redfall, Arkane Austin had been working on the simply superb Prey (2016) and had a good balance of staff between the two studios. Sadly, a lot of the staff left Austin between the release of Prey and the development of Redfall really getting going. The results are kinda self-evident.

I never really had many issues with Ghostwire from a performance point of view. First time I loaded up the game, I went into the options hit the default button, saw it was suggesting 4k Medium settings and I ran with it. Those maxing out their settings probably had a lot more issues. The only update where I really had problems was when they did the RT update. RT isn't really doable at 4k even on a 3080 unless you're running DLSS on Ultra Performance (which isn't so pretty), so I quickly disabled it and switched to a mix of medium/high settings with DLSS on. I enjoyed my time in Tokyo, but having completed the free DLC, I don't think I'll be going back as there isn't much replayability in it.
