Well, welcome back. I did send the computer back and asked for a refund. I was enthusiastic about this computer, I'm really disappointed. I don't understand how a person could control the quality and say that it was ok, that they could send me the computer. We're talking about more than 1500 euros, it's unacceptable to send a chassis with spaces everywhere at this price. Of course, I'm not making a generalization, most people are very happy with their PCs. By the way, they admitted in the RMA that the chassis was defective and that they were going to repair it. From there, the problems would probably have been fixed (or not). Anyway, I preferred to take something else for course/work/gaming.
I think you did the right thing returning the computer. I myself would have done the same in your situation. To be honest, after perusing this forum for a while (as I am after a 17.3" laptop for video editing -no gaming), I am unsure whether so many issues are originating from the ODMs (Tongfang & Clevo) or PCS, or maybe both.
Maybe it would be better to skip barebones system integrators and stick with the bigger brands, who knows? I am at a loss here. Big brands are notoriously impersonal in their customer approach, but maybe they have better QC?
A couple of months ago I was also looking for a 14" laptop for productivity work & occasional light video -editing ( MX-250 would do) and took a long -hard look at the Fusion IV, but ultimately discarded it as too many quirks were reported by users on this forum:
1) All fresh USB ports hard to use, several insertions needed (about 5-10?) to get the ports smooth.
2) Touchpad really difficult to use (jerky, jumpy, hard to position etc)
3) Noisy & overheating issues.
I ended up taking advantage of a DELL promotion. I am not a DELL fan, but the best I could find at a similar price point with 3 years warranty. Fit & Finish on this one is excellent, the screen is gorgeous and the thermals are fine as long as it stays within my use case.
Anyway, good luck, I hope you find a good alternative to fill your needs.
