Day Trading Desktop Advice

Hi All - thank you in advance for any help!

I have read through a lot of helpful posts on the forum and through the different options on the design tool but would appreciate some help.

I’m looking to build as quiet as possible desktop for my Day Trading setup. This will be used to support 2 (potentially 3) 4k screens. These will not have refresh rates above 120 as it isn’t for gaming. The day trading includes both algorithmic and standard trading which will include running python code and APIs between the software and excel.

The budget of £2,500 which I have I believe is more than enough for what I need but happy to go for something which can comfortably do what I need but not stupidly too much.

The case I chose I just chose because I needed one. Happy to be told which is good to help with sound and or match back to the other products that are needed to create a quiet machine

Thanks and look forward to working towards finalising it.

Joel

If you can hold off, the next generation of CPUs is out pretty soon which will see a good increase in performance per £.

If you can't, I would spend a little more to get the next tier of CPU for the grunt work. Regardless some of the other areas needed some propping up.

Thank you for the quick response.

Are you referring to the new AMD CPUs released yesterday? I’m able to wait until mid October, would this fit with the release of them through PCSpecialist?

Thanks!

Yes, looks like orders in mid-September for production from 27 September. If previous releases are anything to go by, PCS will be launching on the general launch dates. I'd then expect a couple of weeks for production and delivery.

Hi All,
I’ve been following the AMD and Intel info and releases over the past few weeks and again today with further Intel info.
I’ve specd up the below INTEL for the below reasons, please let me know if this is in no way a good idea and whether it’s best to wait for AMD cheaper motherboards to come out in October.

I have the budget to go to £2000 + a few hundred more if you say that’s what is needed to push it to something which will be top for what I’m after). Feedback very much appreciated for a novice here

* I work in a small 2 x 2m garden office so dont want a crazy hot or loud PC. Put off by AMDs hot CPUs and worry about heat and or fans etc (although this may be just a red herring and with good fan and or AIO cooler something to not worry about)
* DayTrader running 4 screens (Dell U2520D QHD 60Hz with link below), multiple trading softwares including algorithmic trading and doing both APIs to excel with constantly live data plus back testing algo codes (can be ran overnight so wont interrupt day time work)

*trying to work out the best single or combo of two graphics cards for my screens. I dont need gaming level but need a level to show many charts on the 4 QHD screens. On further research I’ve noticed my screens can daisy chain and therefore could connect 2 screens via 1 DisplayPort. Therefore have downgraded from a prior card which had 4 outputs to a cheaper 1080 which has 2 outputs
* build as quiet as possible desktop - therefore went for the Fractal sound dampening case but maybe overkill?
*assume 32GB RAM is ok and that 62 would be overkill

Thank you again in advance for all your help. Very much appreciated from someone who doesn’t have much knowledge in this, just a lot of interest to read and try to understand and be taught

Doing more and more reading I think I may go for the AMD build.
Happy to hear if you think the 7900X with ASUS TUF motherboard (read on another spec this was a good allrounder would be a better fit

Any help appreciated to aid me eventually setting off the order :) thanks!

I don't know if the 7900X is going to be the right fit. I think it might be a bit OTT but it depends how much real-time number crunching you're planning. For purely making trades the 7700X should be more than enough.

The 7900X would take a bit more of a supporting cast but I would bump up a number of areas regardless.

Thanks for the update Scott!

The real number crunching (back testing code over weeks worth of market data) would be at night or the weekend while I’m not using the PC. While trading it would be constantly pulling say 100,000 info points for 1000 pieces of data and then running charts on this (on top of a couple bits of software with charts and data being fed from the market)

I thought also the 7700 would be more than enough, if you still agree, how would you spec it up?

Can I check the graphics card would be OK to have four of the Dell U2520D QHD 60Hz monitors (using daisy chain so 2 inputs to the PC)?

Thanks again!

Something like the below would be what I would aim for. Unfortunately I don't think the 1030 is good enough for what you are doing. It's listed as supporting a maximum of 2 monitors. I think this includes daisy chaining, which I think you would be limited with on your monitors anyway. I'm not that familiar with daisy chaining monitors though, so I would get some confirmation first. I tend to use USB-C docks :)

The 3050 is the lowest NVidia card to support 4 monitors, the 6600 from AMD does as well and is a little cheaper hence why I chose it.

Thanks for the explanation! Dispute your preference for USB C I’m sure you know a lot more than me :)

As I’m not needing 3D graphics with my work is it possible to use two cheaper graphics cards each with a display port to then have the 2 ports for the 4 monitors?

If not then I’m thinking, given I’m taking the plunge on all the other parts of the PC (which I’m more than happy to), if I’m getting a say 3050 or equivalent card, can this also do some good gaming? Like Civilisation VI, CoD, Settlers. Or is it better to pay little extra and get something which is better (happy to push the budget out if that’s what’s needed)

Thanks

Yes, 2 cheaper cards will work. In fact, with AMD now supporting on-board APUs, I think you could get away with a GPU supporting 3 monitors, and then connect the 4th to the APU output.

As for the best bang for your buck, there isn't really a great selection right now with pricing in mind. I would probably buy a good 2060Ti 2nd hand for gaming with. Would cover your monitor requirements also.

Thanks for the tips.

As this is a primarily work computer, and I’m not a pc pro, I’d want everything done by PC specialist and not myself - warranty plus not trusting myself!

Just a few last questions, I promise!

* I just noticed 6000Mhz Ram is now available, would you upgrade to that? I read it was the sweet spot for the 7700
* I’m out of the UK until late October. Would you recommend holding out to order and see what the X650 motherboards are like as they I’ll be cheaper and surely good enough for me?
* or should I order now as lead times probably mean I wouldn’t get it until then anyway?

Cheers!

Yes, absolutely. The faster the RAM the better. Especially with it being so expensive.

I wouldn't hold out for the motherboards, no. I would only aim for the lower end boards for the lower end chips. Whether you wait to see or not is up to you though.

You're likely to be waiting a little while depending on your selections. A number of items is pre-order anyway.

Hi - just checking on the case options. If I’m interested in a Fractal Design case would I need / be advised to go for a mid size case or be OK with one of the mid size compact cases (e.g the meshify 2 c or design 7 c)?

I think I’d have to change the cooler to the H100i for the smaller radiator. But if I’m looking to potentially add another hard drive and or RAM in the future then would a standard mid tower be more preferable?

Thanks!
