Current PC - Thinking of upgrading some components

This is my PCS build and the full spec is below.

I am thinking of upgrading my current Window 10 system, instead of having a new machine built by PC Specialist.

I will be upgrading to Windows 11.

The 3 main components that I am interested in upgrading are the following.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X to an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

GPU - Not sure yet because I am not looking to upgrade my monitor yet.

Power supply - I am looking at the upgrading my Corsair 750W RMx to a Corsair 1000W/1200W.

I do use my PC for gaming.


Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

I want to have the system run very well with the newer upgrades without any possible problems, when under load, e.g. when playing games.

The monitor that I have at the moment is an IIYAMA G-MASTER GB2760QSU-B1 27"

This monitor is 1440p and has a max refresh rate of 144Hz.

I would like to be able to have the choice of upgrading this. Which GPU, would be a good option to choose for my current monitor and when upgrading to a better 4k one?

What’s your max budget for the upgrades?

My max budget for the upgrades, excluding a new monitor is £1400-£1500.


Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

I'm not following though, what's preventing you doing that with the current system? Where is performance lacking that you're trying to improve?

I want to have the system run very well with the newer upgrades without any possible problems, when under load, e.g. when playing games.

So you're currently running games at 1080p? What refresh rate were you getting at 1440p?

Just trying to work out specifically what needs you have.

Yes, when I run at 1080p, I am able to have more of the in-game settings setting to High with a consistent frame rate. This is usually easily 85-90 FPS.

When I have increased the resolution to 1440p, depending on the game and everything set to 'high', the FPS can drop to 50-60.

I think you may be getting confused.

The only limitation in graphics power is your budget. Doesn't matter if you're on AM4 or AM5, the CPU is never going to be a bottleneck, it's more the GPU.

You have absolutely no need to think of replacing that system for a good 6 or so years (unless you're entirely bonkers), the whole point of a custom PC is that you can upgrade it to maintain performance.

Would changing the 3 Corsair AF140 case fans increase the air flow? I have the Corsair Obsidian Series 750D Full Tower case.

I was thinking of these as a replacement.

Well this is what I'm trying to evaluate, you're not making yourself very clear.

Are you not thinking of upgrading to 4k? If so, you need to say as then it would make more sense to get a 4k GPU. If you are, then what's your budget for the monitor as obviously as you go up resolution, the prices increase. You seemed to think 4k required AM5 which isn’t the case.

Similarly, why do you want more fans? Are you seeing thermal issues? If so on what component and what temps? You have raised this before and from everything you posted there were no cooling issues, so if something's changed you need to be specific and let us know what: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...es-and-cleaning-the-inside-of-the-case.89531/ Components have normal operating ranges they run under, so long as they’re within those parameters, you don’t need any improvement

You don't just randomly replace things for the sake of it, you make upgrades to improve performance in targeted areas. But we need to know what performance you're looking for before we can make any suggestions. But your budget is fairly limited so we need to work out all the areas you’re looking to improve to best balance the budget.
