CPU Temperature and Shutdown

Hi - Looking for some pointers.

I have the following machine built by PCS and it has been running 24/7 since November 2023

Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16 Core CPU (4.5GHz-5.7GHz/80MB CACHE/AM5)

Processor Cooling
PCS FrostFlow 240 Series RGB High Performance Liquid Cooler (AMD)

The issue, today it just shutdown and when I try and boot, it just shuts down loading windows. If I turn it on straight away the BIOS warns the CPU is to hot.

If I wait 5 mins and power it on and get into the BIOS the temperature reported is 84c with the following fan speeds reported

W_pump+ = 1253
AIO pump = 2180

As I'm in the BIOS the temp creeps up and the machine powers down again.

I've tried to lookup if these pump speeds are normal but cant find spec data. I've checked the block and there is no dust buildup etc.

I've checked the qfan control area in the BIOS and the settings are on MAX.

Any other troubleshooting suggestions? The machine isn't used for Gaming, just a Plex Server, CCTV Server and video file rendering. It's been flawless for well over a year!

The cooler is nowhere near suitable for the processor and has likely failed as it's had to work too hard even at normal loads.

You can't use it until you've replaced the cooler or you'll cook the CPU / Motherboard

Your only option in that case is to front mount a 360mm radiator like the H150i (whichever model you want, pretty much all the same cooler but change the RGB level, except the new Titan has an improved pump) if you're doing it through PCS.

If you're doing it yourself and don't mind not having RGB blinginess, the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 is absolutely excellent, has a bonus of having an active fan cooling the VRMs on the motherboard (which is actually effective), so would certainly further help with that mobo under render jobs, it's pretty universally stocked, somewhere like Amazon is always a bonus as they have a great no questions returns policy if needed.

In future, please do get some advice as there are lots of irregularities with that build, the GPU for instance seems irrelevant as you have integrated graphics and the GPU is less powerful than them. The primary SSDs are a strange choice also, you could have done far better with the design for the same money.

Quick update, the Artic Liquid Freezer wouldn't fit in the Corsair 3000D case, well not at front, it may have at the top if I drilled some holes for mounting, but I couldn't be bothered, things were a tad tight anyway, so I opted and bought a NZXT h7 flow case and transplanted everything over.

End result is the temps on a H.265 encode didn't peak above 87c and it now idles at about 38c. Encoding times did seem a bit faster too.

Power consumption is down by 15w in idle too, so that's a bonus.

Once again, thanks for the pointers, much appreciated.

In future, get advice if you're unsure of hardware, this could have all been prevented and gotten you far better performance at the budget in the first place.
