Cosmos Series - Bad webcam & Loud fans

Hi,

I got a laptop from the Cosmos series last month and I've got a couple of grievances with it.

First and the main point, the fans run very loud, just doing a few basic things and it ramps up speed which is quite annoying.

Secondly the webcam is not very good, the picture quality is not clear and I can't use the Windows "Hello Face" to unlock the computer.

Is there anything I can do to rectify these issues?

Thanks,

Luke

It's not because the webcam has low quality (most of the laptops will have in low light) that you can't use windows hello. That will require an extra hardware feature (infrared camera, like the iphone) for security purposes, like to not allow your laptop to be unlocked with a picture of your face. Since I believe the cosmos doesn't have that infrared sensor (my Nova doesn't have either), then you can't use windows hello with the webcam. A workaround for this is to have a USB fingerprint scanner that is another way of using windows hello (my suggestion would be the kensington verimark)

Regarding fan noise, did you order your laptop with better thermal paste? That is something that is supposed to help with thermals. Another thing to look for is a software called gaming/control center that I believe should have been pre-installed on your laptop. That will allow you to switch between a few different power profiles that will make you CPU run cooler (and with less fan noise), but still fast enough for most daily tasks. When you find the tool, look for quiet or office modes.

That's pretty much the same spec as mine, you can download control center from the support area on the main site

I might have upset my PC, but if I make any changes in Control Center ref power plans, it makes zero difference (checked with CPU speed in HWMonitor). Mine only alters if I actually use Windows to change the power settings, balanced should give your ears a break.

If that's the case then it's not configured correctly, or the driver is out of date.
