Cooler question on 5800X

Hi,

looking to get a new PC built and with help from a friend they have come up with below. Just have a quick question in regards to the cooler and would like to know if this cooler would be okay for a 5800X?

Thanks

That's a similar-sized cooler as I've got on mine...seems to be working perfectly fine for me...probably the same pump/rad but without the RGB fans.

I'm not sure about the motherboard though, as I'd prefer the extra power/temp protection of the X570 board myself.

BTW, unless you have a specific requirement for a slower 1TB SATA SSD I'd suggest swapping it for a 1TB PCS m.2 SSD (similar price but faster) instead.

Also, the additional 'black case fan' will be a generic one, and not controllable from iCUE. You've got an iCUE case, so I assume you want some 'unicorn vomit' like me!

Presumably the budget is £2000?

What will you be using the computer for? What monitor do you have?

Honestly this looks pretty good, but there are a few things that could usefully be tweaked, principally the storage.

Thanks for the reply.

Tbh, I am not too fussed about the black fan, I just wanted extra cooling. With storage I figured an SSD would be fine for me as it will just be for my games. Would it be worth swapping to what you suggested?

Yeah, budget is £2000

Gaming and streaming. Monitor is 1080p 144hz - may upgrade in the future.

What changes would you suggest?

Thanks

If your not going to be going for a 1440p 144hz monitor or higher in the next year you could drop the graphics card down to a 3060/3060ti as your current monitor will bottleneck the 3070ti

This build · especially the graphics card – is way over the top for 1080p. The 3070 Ti is a top-end 1440p card; you won't get value from it because your monitor just can't make the most of it. If you're going to spend £300-400 on a monitor upgrade, it'd be worth it. But if not, I'd go for a luxury 1080p build instead.

Here's a build that's the top end of 1080p: it's a little overkill but not in any stupid ways. I've suggested a different case, because the 465X, though a great case, is on the small size. I've upgraded your storage, added RGB RAM (because right now it's £1 cheaper!), upgraded the power supply and the warranty.

This could be made cheaper without significantly reducing performance. And you could upgrade the cooler to the H115i: that'd also not be a bad plan for the 5800X.

Oh, there's a mistake in that build but I'm on my phone so it's hard to fix: I'd change the primary SSD to a 500GB Firecuda 530 for extra speed without much extra cost.

Games would be better on an M.2 SSD rather than a SATA SSD and there will be little if any price increase. Given the case has 3 LL120 fans and you have 2 extract fans on the cooler, there is little benefit from an additional extract. If you do get one, I would stick with an LL120 (like those at the front of the case, as that will be controllable via iCue. I don’t know if the black fans can be controlled at all. I would also up the PSU to the RMx 850W to allow for future upgrade. A 3070Ti is wasted on a 1080p monitor and there is no point trying to future proof, unless you are going to upgrade to 1440p in the near future.

Edit: iPad typos fixed for clarity

I would also change the motherboard to the TUF X570 for the 5800x.

The Strix B550 is fine. I'm not saying the X570 is a bad choice, but the 5800X will be fine on the Strix. (In fact, AMD's specs for B550 are high enough that the Tuf B550 would probably be fine as well, but the Strix certainly will be.)
