Control Center Install not working + Speakers very weak

Hi all,

I have a Recoil series laptop, specs below, and I'm trying to make some driver updates / program updates in attempts to restore what I remember as "good sound quality" from when I first purchased my laptop a year ago. The speakers are really quiet, compared to a low end dell notebook given to me by work. I can barely hear dialogue in shows when doing anything but sitting in a quiet room.

So I thought maybe there was so audio booster I had accidentally uninstalled. I know the laptop came with some THX software which was still there and thought maybe it could use an update, so I went to the tech support page, downloads, and windows 10 and downloaded a bunch of stuff that was dated around the purchase date of the laptop, as well as two listed control center packs "ControlCenter_3.1.35.0_W10.zip" - 11-11-2021 & "w10_Control Center.zip" - 19-04-2021.

Before I got to messing around with the "w10_Audio.zip", I went to try and open one of the Control center setup files. My stupid Norton quarantined a bunch of stuff normally found in ProgramFiles\OEM\ (Where Control Center is usually), and I couldnt get them back from quarantine. I stopped all antivirus services and tried the setup again and was met with "uninstall.dat not found". It was one of the files quarantined. So I deleted the now half-empty OEM folder from program files, in hopes the setup wouldn't try to uninstall a program that wasnt there anymore and could skip to the install, but the setup now just flashes and dissapears. I can't get it to open no matter what I do.

TLDR; Although this started as an audio problem, Im now focusing on getting the Control Center back. Does anyone know how I can get an install only setup to run?

If you check underneath your laptop, you should see the Clevo model number. For example, mine is P775TM1G.
  1. Open this link: https://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_down.asp?lang=en
  2. Next to model, click the item with the serial number underneath your laptop
  3. Under driver, click "Other"
  4. Scroll down to the bottom to find the latest version of "Control Centre" (there's a tab labelled "Start" which will tell you the latest version by its release date)
Hopefully this gets you the control centre working again.

As for the audio, I imagine the culprit is either:
  • Realtek audio isn't installed (you can check this by opening device manager > sound, video, and game controllers > check for Realtek
  • You initially had a generic Microsoft audio driver
  • It could potentially have been software related. When I had Creative Soundblaster installed, my laptop audio was far louder than without it. I've personally never used THX but I imagine it might have had its own audio/sound settings?
Also, I would personally avoid using Norton. From my experience, the absolute best virus prevention solution is Windows Defender + Malware Bytes (and sticking to the trusted websites). 3rd party antivirus software is more often than not a system resource hog and a bit of a pain to get meaningful value from.

Many many thanks for the reply, Its quite late here so I'll get to work on this tomorrow and get back to you. Starting with control center, I had seen a similar thread where someone suggested the sticker underneath the laptop and trying to find the model number but Ive exhausted that list and I cant find anything similar.
I'll have a look at the audio drivers tomorrow. Thanks again!

Starting with control center, I had seen a similar thread where someone suggested the sticker underneath the laptop and trying to find the model number but Ive exhausted that list and I cant find anything similar. There are 3 barcodes
1) No label: GM5ZG8W2211103589

Are any of those decipherable?
I'll have a look at the audio drivers tomorrow. Thanks again!
It's not a barcode, it will state either clevo computer or TongFang and then a model number alongside it

Thanks for the reply, I can see now its sort of etched into the black chassis and quite difficult to read but it says TongFang for sure, and Model No. GM5OW (I think, definately the GM5 part). I still cant find this in the model drop down list on the Clevo site.

you wont find it on the Clevo site as it's a Tongfang

Apologies for the confusion there! I did a few Google searches for this laptop and most results came up with Clevo. I'm unfortunately not used to Tongfang laptop's so hopefully the original poster gets the correct software through the PCSpecialist page (as SpyderTracks mentioned).

UPDATE to anyone reading this. I fixed the audio issue by going to "Change system sounds", (legacy settings) right clicking the speaker and going to properties, then in the advanced tab, I changed 16 bit 48000 Hz (DVD Quality) to 24 bit 48000 Hz (Studio Quality). Much louder and the audio enhancements work now too. Also now the THX spatial audio system actually can edit the EQ as before it did nothing.

For the Control center application, the old installer is discontinued. You have to ask someone at PCS to send you the newer install version 5.1.49.2.
