Hi, I have been fighting with this for a few hours now with no luck. My pc had been having a few issues recently with freezes and bsod so I decided to do a clean windows install.

The problem is now worse, after finishing the install of windows 11 pro the whole system freezes after 5 - 10 minutes of use, cannot use mouse or keyboard either and need to turn off the PC. I have tried testing the ram with either stick and in different slots but it stays the same.

Any advice for what I can try next? Let me know if I need to provide anything else...

What method did you use to clean install? How did you source drivers? Be as specific as possible please as there are numerous ways to wipe windows, but only one way to clean install.

Thanks for the reply, I downloaded the win 11 installation media from ms to a usb and booted from that, formatting my SSD first before installing windows.

As for drivers I started to grab these after the install from the manufacturers sites but the constant freezes mean I can't get through this. Appreciate the help.

So I would start with a clean install, don't bother formatting anything, just delete existing partitions, then install to the blank space.

Then once you're in windows, don't install drivers from any manufacturers sites, use windows update (optional updates) and make sure all available are installed.

Then come back and we can start some testing.

Update.

So I did a clean install as you said and started the windows updates which almost finished before the first freeze, as usual mouse and keyboard wouldn't work and had to turn the power off 😩 happened after about 10 mins

Until windows is configured we can't begin testing, have you done all optional updates?

Yeah no worries restarted and went back through them. All windows updates now done and haven't installed anything else

Cool, and then just double check device manager that all devices are accounted for and none showing as unknown or with a Red Cross?

Cool, so just as a precaution, as it was a known issue on 5000 series AMD, occasionally windows would apply a buggy chipset driver.

So just manually install the latest one from the Asus site: https://rog.asus.com/uk/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-x570-f-gaming-model/helpdesk_download/

Ok have installed the chipset driver and restarted. So far no issue yet but will update if it locks up again.

So lastly if you install the latest graphics driver direct from Nvidia

While I was waiting I booted into safe mode and left it idle for about 10 mins, came back to this bsod.

Stop code: clock watchdog timeout

Literally tearing my hair out at this, need the pc running for work tomorrow morning! Would really appreciate any help

I would try 1 stick of RAM. If it still locks, swap the stick being used around.

Have you done any overclocking or anything like that? If you have, it would be worth resetting the BIOS to defaults, just to rule out any memory degredation etc.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried either stick of ram and unfortunately it still locks up. I haven't overclocked anything and have also reset the bios to defaults earlier with no luck

Have you looked at temperatures and if anything looks suspicious in Task Manager + other monitors ?

Edit: If not done already, to diagnose the issue I would also disconnect any component or peripheral that you do not absolutely need.
