Hi ....We have just had the following delivered.

Tornado R5 Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 5, RX 5500 XT, 2 TB HDD & 256 GB SSD

We have taken off the glass panel, removed the safety packaging, plugged into mains, connected up monitor and nothing. What are we not doing wrong as no power to the PC.

I'm sure more experienced members might reply soon but some things I would try if possible:
  • Connect the monitor to another computer or laptop to check it works. I assume you have a keyboard and mouse connected even though you have not mentioned it
  • Do you see any LEDs lit up on the motherboard when the power button is pressed? this is a way to check for any power is getting through at all. Though maybe there are motherboards with no LEDs.
  • Do you hear any beeps from the PC? this is a way it can provide error information without a monitor connected
  • Unplug everything and start again to check it wasn't a loose connection
  • If you have another working PC around test the power cable and monitor works with that

Thank you....Yes, I have tried another power lead, have tried another plug...there is nothing, no lights, no sound
! The only thing is I have a black wire with 2 silver connecters at each end and the instructions say its a PCI express adaptor but have no clue where this might go. The keyboard and mouse are lighting up so there is power.

I should have asked, can you provide a link to your spec please. I think if you look in your account on the https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ website there is a link somewhere to copy it.

I wonder if it's the graphics card is not connected correctly for some reason.

I looked online got the GPU AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT and it does appear to have an 8-pin PCI power connector.

If you look on Google and search for "pci express power adapter" and look at the image results, do they look like the wire you have?

Is the wire loose from the box or is it connected to the PC?

It might not be the GPU, it could be something like a RAM stick has become a touch loose during delivery. I've not found any PCS page about troubleshooting steps, maybe I've missed it. I imagine there might be posts on the forum at least replies suggestions reseating the RAM. That is simply taking it out and connecting it again.

though I don't know if I've missed any other troubleshooting steps PCS might suggest first.

Thank you ....I've called my friend over to have a look as he is good with PC's and it appears video card was not connected properly but we are still having problems even now with power but thank you for your help

No problem, it is certainly easier to do the troubleshooting in person. I had already typed up most of a post so I will still include the rest :). Good luck with it, hopefully you get it sorted soon.

I realised I didn't ask about the GPU ports on the PC. I ordered my PC from PCS and received an email about setup information and includes this information:

You have ordered a graphics card with your computer and your motherboard comes supplied with integrated graphics. When connecting your monitor it is important that you connect your monitor cable to the output on the graphics card and NOT the output on the motherboard, because by doing so your monitor will not display anything on the screen.

I'm back on my laptop and have had a look at my account on the PCS website, the Order Details > My Orders link goes to the URL https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/orders/ that is where I found the spec listed along with a link "post spec to forums" that provides a simple text formatted list of the specs and includes the Motherboard along with various other information.

But I couldn't find a TORNADO R5 GAMING PC on the PCS website but I did find they are sold from Currys PC World (https://www.currys.co.uk/). Though maybe they are also sold by PCS directly as a Next Day PC when there is stock. The available next day systems on https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers-for-next-day-delivery/ seem to change over time and it doesn't list what is offered but not in stock currently.

Looking online I found the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 does not include integrated graphics, I assume that means you might only have the ports for a monitor on the graphics card.

Have you connected your monitor to the connectors on the GPU and not one on the motherboard? As there is no integrated graphic capability on the CPU, you won’t get any graphics output form the MB connector.
