Completely lost with gaming PC

Please could someone build a PC spec for me as I’m completely lost and have no clue what I’m looking at. It’s for my son and he wants to use it for gaming usually fortnite and an Elgato. This is the monitor he currently has

He’s saved £1000 himself and I’ll put upto £600ish to it if needed. He’s worked so hard to save I want to make sure we get it right. Any help appreciated

Hi there! For the monitor you've mentioned, this should work nicely! You could spend the extra £600 or so, but it's not totally necessary.

It's pretty hard to 'futureproof' a PC per se as the tech moves so quickly it's difficult to know what will come next, but it has got what I like to call the holy trinity- Case, motherboard and PSU. These are what I'd call the base of the build and are the most difficult to change/ upgrade, with a good foundation, changing anything else should be a fairly simple task with some knowledge or a youtube video!

Case- It's important to have a case with high airflow that'll keep components cool, the one I've gone for has an open mesh front as well as 2 large fans to pull air in, and 1 on the back to pull air out. You could go for a case like the Cooler Master TD500 which increases compatibility with other fans but both cases will do a good job

Motherboard- This is the bit that everything plugs into so needing to swap it out would effectively require a rebuild. The ASUS TUF B550 motherboard I've gone for here is a solid mid-range motherboard that'll comfortably handle the CPU in this build as well as a potential upgrade if your son is requiring a bit more oomph down the road

PSU/ Power Supply- As new graphics cards come out, the power requirements they have only tended to have gone up. Along with that, if you were to upgrade the monitor you'd likely want a more powerful Graphics card to keep a smooth experience which would require more power. The current build would probably only need a 450W or 550W PSU to comfortably power the build, but I've put in a 750W unit that will allow for an upgrade to almost a top end GPU. If you wanted to take this a little further you could go for an 850W unit if you wanted.
