Complete Newb....new PC

Hi all.....haven't bought a PC in like a zillion years so please treat me like a complete newb......I've made the following high spec gaming build as I have come into a bit of cash and want it to last quite long (along with occasional upgrades). Is there much difference to the motherboard I've selected and the Z790 maximus hero that is currently out of stock? Do I wait or isn't it that important?

Also does the case really matter? I just picked a middle of the road one.

I actually bought a 13900KS equipped PC on here the other day but after receiving advice on these forums refunded it in favour of buying a Ryzen 7000 X3D equipped pc next month (when they release). If your PC is mainly for gaming I'd advise you to consider doing similar. The X3D chips will probably be better at gaming than the 13900KS (I bet it will be close), especially at resolutions below 4k.

But importantly they offer an upgrade path for a few years and are far less power hungry/run cooler. The AMD 58003XD has proven to be arguably the best gaming cpu of recent times and the new X3D's are the successor to it. The KS is meant for overclockers/tinkerers who like to spend time tuning their setup, is that something that appeals? Otherwise if you still want Intel, just go for the 13900K or maybe the 13700K.

(afaik that mobo is fine by the way).

Yeah, the motherboard is fine, but as @tikky says, I'd question the whole premise of the build! The 13900KS gains you very little over, say, the 13700K, while costing hundreds more and heating your room very quickly indeed. I'd suggest waiting for the AMD X3D launch in the next few weeks, and getting one of the systems based on that.

The important questions at that time, however, will be:
  1. What's the budget?
  2. What's the PC going to be used for?
  3. What display will you use?

Budget is about 4.5k I suppose......I just picked the best of the best from Intel's side of things from options available as want it to last as long as poss......don't know much about AMD to be honest.

Gaming yes, work as well.....want to be able to do about 6-8 tasks at once.

At the moment i've got an Eve Spectrum 4k 144hz but also want to get a 240hz version as soon as a good one comes out.

What kind of 6-8 tasks? Are we talking about word processing or 3D model rendering? They're very different!

Neither....logging into 6 different wifi dongles at same time.....rather not say why lol.....but either way just want as fast an efficient one as poss with my budget

What do you mean by WiFi dongles?

You mean TV streamers or simply the browser interface to a network usb stick?

usb sticks and the seperate boxes that EE do for example

But getting off track a bit where i don't really want to go lol....so lets concentrate on the gaming side.....I wanna be able to run games at highest possible graphics at highest possible FPS so obviously want as powerful as poss in my budget.

Sounds particularly dodgy to me, not something I'm comfortable helping with.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're doing, but it sounds like nothing demanding beyond gaming. That's the point of all that conversation -- it really determines where makes sense to target the build.

Here's what I'd tentatively propose for you, albeit waiting for the CPU to be released in the next few weeks.

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE I'd prefer the 5000X, but it's out of stock
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12 Core CPU (4.7GHz-5.6GHz/76MB CACHE/AM5) Probably actually the 7900X3D when it comes out, might be £50-100 more
Motherboard

ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI (WIFI 6E, DDR5, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready!
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
24GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090 - HDMI, DP Unambiguously overkill, but as good as it gets
1st M.2 SSD Drive

1TB SAMSUNG 990 PRO M.2, PCIe 4.0 NVMe (up to 7450MB/R, 6900MB/W) Unambiguously overkill for a boot drive, but as good as it gets
1st M.2 SSD Drive

2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 530 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 7300MB/R, 6900MB/W) Unambiguously overkill for a games drive, but pretty much as good as it gets
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1200W HX SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® PLATINUM, ULTRA QUIET Technically overkill, but not stupidly
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
Corsair iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Go for the H150i LCD if you don't mind overspending for aesthetic frills
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
