I have a Pakuma as the backpack but I have to say ALL my other bags are Wenger Swissgear - best travelling gear in the World as far as I am concerned. You will not go wrong with a Swissgear backpack but it isn't going to cost you £40. Saw one on Amazon for £54.
Re. aftermarket: Swissgear Ibex is a shexy backpack from... you've guess it - Switzerland! Holds a 17" with a lot of extra room for anything from books to laptop coolers. Build quality is second to none.
I have one of these and it is excellent, easily fits my laptop, charger, 3 bulky folders for college, assorted stationery AND a greedy persons packed lunch, all with room to spare.
these are some choices
I think that the targus should definitely help the budget and have enough space ...
the other bags look nice , but may be a bit too bulky, and on the swiss a bit pricey ...
the Swissgear Ibex is very good looking, and that alone makes it very tempting , lol ,
will decide closer to the time, ( still trying to get hold on my friend in U.K , ) then will place the order ...
this too is interesting http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=839&Itemid=65
one guy says "I've now had the SRW-S1 for several months. I've read many reviews one of the perceived drawbacks is its main positive attribute, and that being you have to hold it up since it is unmounted. The argument is, your arms will fatigue over time. True... IF that is the way you hold it the entire time driving. Add to that, many gamers are 'no-exercise couch potatoes', I can understand the comments. But you will quickly find you can rest it on your lap, and even better yet, lay back in a recliner, get comfortable, rest it on your lap and race for literally hours."
Not used the steel series myself but it sure has a lot of buttons, obviously designed for the f1 sim racing games. Not sure it would beat a g27 though (I like the clutch pedal), it is half the price though. The steel series does ave good reviews though http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/input_devices/steelseries_srw-s1_review/1
just back to the bags , I saw on newegg posted this:
"Wenger Blue 17" SwissGear backpack
Pros: Spacious inside. Lots of room. Everything is well stiched and very rugged. Lots of storage compartments. Well padded in the areas that need it. Trusted name in Wenger, they are Swiss Army. Some of the best Swiss Army knives in the world are made by Wenger.
Cons: If you have a large notebook, like I do, 17" is the absolute limit that will fit. I have a 17" Dell 17R, and the laptop storage area will barely zip up. It does fit, but there is no extra room. Not worth deducting an egg, since I knew it was going to be close anyway. But keep this in mind."
and someone else said this :
"Cons: My 15.6" Widescreen gaming laptop fits nicely(15" bag was way to small) with a little wiggle room at the top, so not sure how a 17" would fit into it."
hhhhmmmm not very promising considering size of elite ....
on the length which is 293mm , translates into 1.7cm longer than normal vortexIII , this is basically almost an inch longer, and from what
guys were saying on the "egg" , doesn't look like the 17inch spec can accommodate even half an inch more ...? just saying ...
in any event , the other guy on the "egg" mentioned he could fit a toshiba 18,4inch laptop into the targus bag , so thats good news for me ;-)
and since I will probably also put my 13inch macbook in the same bag, space is key feature ...
The 293 mm is the depth, or front to back measurement if you're facing the screen of the laptop. Dimensions for Swissgear Ibex backapack are 482.6 x 381 x 254 mm. It is wide enough & of sufficient height to accommodate the P370EM.
Dell example from NewEgg is: 16.54" (423.0mm) x 10.87" (287.0mm) x 1.24" (31.4mm).
I think i'll stick with the targus, nice sleek look, and good for work,
So have placed my order, will need a day or 2 to reflect payment, then I guess simply (yah right ! ) a matter of waiting ...
What delivery services operate in your country? I wonder how the whole process works - do they first airmail it to South Africa and then dispense via a land service?
ha ! no such luck , I have a few friends in the U.K who will be coming to zim over christmas , for now the earliest guy can bring it only on the 3rd of jan !!??
however , I'm trying to find other friends who are coming earlier than that ....the horror ! I know , the one guy was supposed to come in dec, fell thru ...
so yeah ....not so str8 forward to get it to zim, I could go the "normal" route , air freight to zim, but trying to save every penny, and spend max on
the actual laptop ...lol
I have a guy to do it the "normal" route , he charges 5pounds/kg and zim tax is 15% , so thats like an extra 300pounds , sorry thats just too
much for me ....lol
Yeah, airmail could be rather expensive if there's not enough volume of deliveries moving to and from your location. A delivery by a friend could be the "safest" way. : )
