Hi,

Looking for some expert advice here with either of these specs, Ionico 15.6" or Recoil 15.6". I was thinking of changing to RAM on either build to 64GB Corsair 2666MHz DDR4 (2x 32GB) but unsure as I think it's better to stick to faster RAM?.

The laptop will mainly be used for gaming (of course), photo and video editing along with work from home duties. I'm not fussed if it's WIndows 10 or 11 and the budget is £2000 maximum. My current laptop has lasted me almost 10 years but it's getting on a bit so it's time for an upgrade. I don't want an Intel processor as I'm not a fan of them, I prefer AMD and I don't personally see the need for 2 SDD's as I'm happy for everything to be installed and run off one SSD, but happy for advice on everything.

Thanks for any help. Looking to order ASAP once I have some advice.

How much of the use is video editing?
Wouldnt a second drive be useful as a scratch drive? Even if not for a scratch drive, having two separate drives, one OS and one games/programs etc would provide a performance boost and make it easier to manage reinstalling windows etc.

64GB RAM also seems very heavy unless its primarily for video editing/professional level, if the main aim is gaming and you arent heavily focused on video editing i'd stick to the 32GB faster RAM and any budget left over that money could then go towards enhancing storage etc.

Are you getting rid of the old laptop? Can you transfer your windows licence? (What version is it?)
P.S i've had the "Killer" stuff before... to be honest, I dont think it really made a difference at all

BTW that Silver warranty, its a must have...gives full cover for a year rather than just 1 month courier service... so £5 extra which more than repays itself even if you only get one return (which will cost something like £30 or so)

Firstly, thank you for your response! Much much appreciated.

At the moment, not a lot, percentage wise I'd say 10% maybe maximum 20%, majority will be gaming and work from home duties but I'd like the extra headway there just in case if you know what I mean. Once I start travelling again, doing more road trips I'll do some more video editing. So do you think sticking to 32GB is the best option here? Nothing will be at pro level, I'm more of an amateur here.

Just seen you've replied with a new spec, many thanks for that and I see your point with the secondary drive so that's a fair comment and I'll take that on board. Warranty wise, I didn't change it on my build but I was indeed looking at Silver or even Gold, in the grand scheme of things, at this price level, it would be silly not to go for.

Windows wise, I'm not sure if I can transfer it off my current laptop, I certainly don't have the recovery media as I've moved house since owning this laptop so I've probably lost it but I'm happy just to but another one on the order as the costs seems negligible.

Again, thanks for your response, it's much appreciated. Have a lovely day and weekend.

What version of windows is it?

Current laptop is Windows 10 bud but I'll probably still keep Windows on there and keep it as a spare laptop just in case, that's why I was thinking of just buying another licence if maybe going for Windows 11 on the new laptop.

Win 10 is transferable, you can log on at microsoft.com and check your microsoft account there, if it isnt already digitally linked to the account it should then do it and its very easy to then download the media tool and create a boot usb to install win 10 on a new machine.

If its 10 years old, i'd transfer it and then -if- you should use the laptop there are then options if/when youd need to... £120 can make quite a difference to what you can spec (i'd get it more if you were switching to a desktop, but not if replacing an old laptop with another laptop).

I cant see why youd want to keep the old one up and running if you were replacing with a top spec custom laptop, but its your choice really.
You could just take a 1TB games drive and still be within budget of course.

Fair points bud, the only reason I don't want to make the current un-useable is in that rare scenario where if something happens, I can't be without a laptop for work. Literally will just be a backup device.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on Monday with your spec above.

Thanks for your help again, much much appreciated!
