Check These Specs

Hi,

I posted a spec a few weeks ago but no one replied, however, since then I've looked into this more and made a number of changes to the order so would love some feedback.

Wondering if you can have a look over this and give some advice. Looking to replace my 5 year old Gaming PC with a new one. The main games I play are Football Manager, City Skylines, Rome: Total War new one, Planet Zoo and Coaster. I'm not really playing the high end games that require a great graphics card but I want the option to do that hence the graphics card choice.

I really wanted a fast processor, good RAM and fast hard drive as some of these games are focused towards this so that's influenced my choices. I'm happy to take on any feedback as I want to get this right

My budget is around a max of £2500/£2600. I'm looking to buy end of Jan/start of Feb

What I would like to know is if I'm not going to get the benefit of the Card I've selected due to my monitors and I decide not to upgrade the monitors what is the best card to get to maximise the monitors I do have

Monitor: AOC Q2778Vqe 27" Widescreen TN LED Black Monitor (2560x1440/1ms/VGA/DVI-D/HDMI/DP)

Sorry for not replying before. I remember your post but was out at the time and it's hard work on a phone!

I'd say you can get way better value for money. I'd start with a far better monitor. It's both slow (only 60Hz) and poor quality (a TN panel); I'd get something way better. If you wanted to stick with 1440p as a resolution, you could go for the LG 27GN850 or the Gigabyte G27Q, both under £300, or the luxury option of the MSI MAG274QRF-QD for £500. The other options would be something like the MSI MPG341QR, which is ultrawide (21:9 rather than 16:9 aspect ratio) for about £650.

I would not plan on keeping that monitor: it will be the main bottleneck in your gaming setup. I would reduce the cost of the PC if you need more budget for the monitor.

Then you'd need a PC to match. Here's one that would be "top end" for any of those monitors, perhaps even slight overkill especially considering the games you're going for. I wouldn't think it stupid overkill, however, if you're thinking of more demanding games in future.

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE Much cheaper but still excellent case

Hi,

Appreciate the responses they've been really helpful. I've made some changes based off what you've both suggested. The main thing I've not changed is the case as although it's expensive I really like it visually. I also kept the extra fans for it as I think looking at a review of the case it benefits from it but I'm willing to change that if needed.

Based on what you've said I think I'll need to get a new monitor/monitors. If I got a new 1440p res is it even worth getting a 3080 or should I go with the 3070 that has been suggested?

A 3080 for 1440p is overkill, but not stupidly so for some games, if you like fast and graphically intensive games. For slower paced games like Cities: Skylines and certainly for non-graphical games like Football Manager, it would be completely over the top.

Would a 3070 in that case be the best choice?

Hi,

I've been thinking about this and I'm considering going with an AMD build. Reasons for this is the 7900 has a much, much lower power consumption and it seems to not be too far off the Intel chip I chose. I've kept everything else pretty much the same as the other build but would appreciate any advice as maybe I don't need certain things I've chosen due to it being AMD and I've had to choose a few different options due to it being AMD specific like the Motherboard.
