Check my specs

Hello,

I'm not a whizz at understanding all the various types of parts that go into gaming PCs or the better brands etc.

My old PC is running out of juice and its old parts. I've decided to upgrade and chosen my new one on the specs below. I was trying to match recommended specs in games like Hitman WoA and the new Oblivion Remastered. Plus preparing for Elder Scrolls 6.

I'd be grateful for any feedback.

INTEL is DOA, best to avoid it! The above build is also extremely unbalanced and not well-designed.

What's your max budget? What monitor will you pair with it?

That monitor is a very slow 'gaming' monitor - it's only 60Hz...so a beefy 1440p GPU like the 5070Ti will be expensive overkill (i.e. about 50% of your budget).

If we go down to the 5060Ti 16GB we can reduce the cost significantly (by over £300)...assuming you're staying with the current monitor for a while...we can then build the rest of the system around only needing a GPU upgrade when you decide to upgrade to a faster and/or higher resolution gaming monitor.

2025-1080p_ultra.jpg

(I've manually input the 5060Ti models from benchmarks I've seen, but they're actually somewhere between the older 7700XT and 7800XT GPUs)

I got it last month. It's my work monitor and won't be changed for some time.

I understand where you're coming from.

I plan to be able to swap out parts within this PC in the future. I.e upgrade the graphics card

Here's where I'd be, if I knew the monitor is the bottleneck in the system (so no need for an overly-expensive, current gen GPU).

I'm a bit conflicted here, as the budget will only allow a good gaming CPU OR a decent gaming GPU. I could swap it around to use the Ryzen 7 7700 CPU to allow the 5060Ti 16GB or 7800XT, but I don't know which will give more performance initially - whilst the 7800X3D means you only need a GPU upgrade in a few years time when you go to 1440p or a faster monitor. Will add the other option in another post.

Case
CORSAIR FRAME 4000D RS ARGB MODULAR - much better case, fully modular and customisable to add/remove/reconfigure panels
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - much better CPU, and a gaming-specific one - could save here and go for the 7700 and spend more of the budget on a slightly beefier GPU 5060Ti 15GB or 7800XT
Motherboard
GIGABYTE B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI 7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7)
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
12GB GIGABYTE RADEON™ RX 7700 XT GAMING OC - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP - £100 cheaper than the 5060Ti 16GB, but about the same performance (performance falls somewhere between the 8GB and 16GB 5060Ti models, but 12GB is about the minimum recommended VRAM requirement for current AAA games)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB CORSAIR ELITE MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 7000 MB/R, 6200 MB/W) - fast primary SSD for your OS, apps and games launchers
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) - slightly slower secondary SSD for game installs and other storage
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1, MODULAR, CYBENETICS GOLD - plenty of headroom for GPU/CPU upgrades over 3-10 year period
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR NAUTILUS 360 RS ARGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - excellent cooler, and matches the aesthetic and model of fans on the Corsair case - would be overkill if we went for a 7700 CPU as that runs cooler

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING

Both GPU options cost about the same, and trade blows in performance. The 5060Ti wins if you want to run RT. The 7800XT wins on non-RT FPS.

I'll also give you my recommendation, which is identical to @TonyCarter's except for the GPU, which is an ARC B580 (far beyond what is required for a 1080p 60Hz monitor and will not be replaced anytime soon, so when you acquire a proper gaming monitor, you'll upgrade the GPU as well) and the CPU, which has been upgraded to the 9800X3D.

PS: If you must keep under £1800, replace the motherboard with the ASUS B850 TUF, which costs £6 less.

I was also considering going even further down the GPU tiers (for now) to allow the 9800X3D...but whilst that would mean it was only a GPU upgrade away from whatever monitor it was decided to upgrade to in the future, I thought the CPU would just be wasted.

Didn't look at the B580 as it seemed worse than the 7600XT, or the heavily-derided RTX4060, and had random CPU-overhead issues in some scenarios (possibly a driver issue?).

Hence my 'conflicted' nature of choices above ;)

Yes, it looks that the B580's performance is mostly determined by the CPU it's paired with, the game, and the quality settings used.

Considering the OP's 60Hz display, it appears to work decently at 1080p.

Thank you both for running these. It is much appreciated.

I am happy to pay a little extra for a 16gb graphics card if that would be better than 12gb.

I've run a quote. Is there any value in the:

Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND APPLICATION

If you can boost your budget, it will undoubtedly be a better choice.

Regarding the Arctic paste, it will be a downgrade compared to the pre-applied Corsair one, so I would avoid it.

Checking your specification...

We've checked your specification for compatibility. Please consider our advice below before proceeding:

  • You have selected a 1000W power supply, but based on our calculations you actually only need a 650W power supply. We have calculated your specification to require around 449W of power including a 20% allowance. Although it is not a mandatory requirement to select a lower wattage power supply, doing so will save you money and the last thing we'd like to do is over charge you!
  • We will mount the radiator for your cooler at the top of the computer case (where possible), otherwise at the front. If you prefer, you can specify a different mounting location below. We will try to mount the radiator in this location, however please note that this is not a guarantee as other components (such as your RAM) might impede on this.
Top, front or side? - the right hand side of the unit will face a wall with a 6 inch gap to the wall.

Radiator at the top...it's probably the only unobstructed position in that case.

The PSU power note is an advisory saying that what's in the CURRENT build doesn't need that much power...BUT it doesn't / can't take into account a future upgrade or two to a beefier GPU (which could easily double the GPU power required), plus only 20% overhead still doesn't allow the PSU to run it its most optimum/efficient 40-60% range (where the PSU will be in zero RPM fan mode to reduce noise).
