Change RTX 3080 for RX 6900 XT - Will it work?

Given the huge problems with the 3080 stock i'm considering changing my Graphics Card to the RX 3090 XT. I'm far from an expert with Pc's so am just asking for those who know more if my build will still be fine.
Specs -
CPU - Intel i7-10700K (3.8GHz) 16MB
RAM - 32 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 16GB)
Mobo - ASUS Prime Z4900P

Given it’s a 1080p monitor the 3080 is way overkill for it. Unless you’re getting a £800+ 4K 144hrz monitor after it’s not worth it.

Have you considered getting the 3060ti or 3070 instead which will be very very good for a 1440p monitor let alone 1080p

6800XT / 3080 RTX are the 1440p cards and 6900XT and 3090 RTX for 4K. The other two can do 4K. I went for the 6800XT to go with my LG27GL850-B a 1440p 144hz monitor which is Free-sync and Gsync compatible. I wanted one to do both as I was not sure which card I would get when they came out. This will be my first AMD card after always being a Nvidia user. I don’t play with RT so 6800XT with 16GB at 1440p will last me a while.

I don’t think I can ever recommend the 3080 for 1440p gaming. You’ll never use its potential just throwing money away.

The 3070 is more than capable at ultra settings and even the 3060ti won’t struggle.

At 1440p your coming close to using all 10GB of that RAM for textures which was showed by Tech guys like GamerNexus and Hardware Unboxed on YouTube. 4K textures is already reading at 8GB+ so at some point your going to have to lower settings to not run out of RAM. That’s why they went with 11GB for the 2080ti. They were hoping that DDR6X would be much better. And while it is faster it is not necessarily better compared to just more DDR6 RAM which is what AMD did.

Im really looking for something that is in stock. The reason behind my change is that i dont want to be waiting much longer for my build

That’s a bit of redundant thing to say though, when it comes to that point you upgrade the GPU as texture resource won’t be the primary bottleneck by that stage anyway.

3080 and 6800XT are 4k cards, not 1440p.

It all depends what monitor you're going to upgrade to. If it's something to make use of the 3080 or 6800XT or above, then you really need to be spending around £1000 on a monitor. Is that within budget?

If not, then you're looking at 1440p and as advised you can drop down to the 3070 quite happily.

Nothing is in stock at the moment pretty much, everything is on back order.
