Any help on these matters would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You may need to adjust scaling options, open catalyst control center(it may be called amd vision engine control)select "my digital flat panels"then "scaling options"then use the slider to fill the screen.

Check the dvd/cd device status in device manager.
Right click device,select properties/general tab.
If you get this message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
Try deleting the UpperFilters\LowerFilters registry entry
Start Registry Editor Click Start, type regedit in the quick search, and then click the regedit icon in the search results. Registry Editor starts.
1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM
3. Expand ControlSet001
4. Expand Control
5. Expand Class
6. Search for the key {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and left click on it, bringing the values up on the right
In the right hand pane (topic area), you may have Upperfilters, Lowerfilters or both, click UpperFilters if you have it, and delete it, if you have LowerFilters as well, delete this also. If you only have one of the two, just delete that one, don't worry about the one that isn't there.

Have a look at your hardware profiles (control panel-device manager - DVD/CD ROM drives)and check that there is a device listed (If it empty if may be a loose connection/faulty drive so your comp doesnt even know it has a DVD drive)

If it says unrecognised device under the dvd/cd drive listing it is likely a case of software/drivers needing to be installed

When you load a disk into the bay and shut it, can you hear it making any rotation noises? If its a problem with reading the physical disk you should be able to hear it changing in speed as it trys different configs in an attempt to read the disk. If its is trying to read disks but repeatedly failing this could be a sign of a physical fault with the drive (as its brand new i doubt it would be a case of the lens needing to be cleaned)

I got into device manager but strange enough there is no dvd/cd device listing. the actual thing lights up, pops out and closes again no problem. It just does not auto load or even show an image of what is in it. hmmm

Sounds a bit like its connected to the power unit but not to the actual computer (motherboard)...
Even if it was connected but the computer didnt know how to run it it would say something (unrecognised device normally...) but blank says loose connection to me

It might be a connection has come loose in transit,if your not confident checking it yourself give tech support a call, they will talk you through it if they think that could be the problem.

Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying. Will have a little peek and failing that I will call tech support. The guys that tested the pc obviously used all the disks I have here to install things and what not. Thanks fellas.

Just double check the data cable has not been knocked out of the drive in transit, as this is the largest cause of DVD drive problems.

The Smaller L shaped connector, on the picture it is on the right.
If it is connected, try disconnecting it and reconnecting it

Before you try and check if the cables are connected or not, you could turn the system on and start tapping the F8 key to load the Boot menu, once you have the Boot menu, please check and see if the Optical Drive is being detected or not, if it’s not then it is the SATA cable that needs re-connecting. However if it shows the Optical Drive then it could be a Windows problem and we can then focus on the Software side.

You may want to click on the below link to watch a video on YouTube to get you an idea on what you need to check in regards with the Cables.

Hey, just to report back (a little late) that after opening up the base unit and following the cables, it turns out it was slightly loose and once popped back in properly all is well. Just for future reference if anyone stumbles onto this thread with the same issues. Thanks again to all the replies.
