Can't activate Windows 10 on new PC

Hi,

I bought my new PC from Currys PC World (PC Specialist - Vortex ST-S Gaming PC - Intel Core i7, RTX2070 Super, 2TB HDD & 512 GB SSD).

Its states that Windows 10 Home is included but although everything works fine I cannot get windows to activate. Error message is as follows:

We can't activate Windows on this device because the previous version of Windows was not activated prior to upgrading to Windows 10. Go to the store to buy genuine WIndows. Error code 0x803F7001

Any idea how to resolve this? As you can imagine I'm not prepared to pay for another Windows licence to fix this! Thanks for your help

You’d need to contact pcworld, there’s obviously something wrong with the activation

PC world have told me to contact PC Specialist direct. I couldn't get through on the phone but I have sent an email so hopefully they will get back to me soon. Thanks for your advice

Email takes a few days for a response, I’d try the web chat at the bottom of the contact us page

Although PCS will help you, your contract is with Currys/PC World and they have sold you a PC that is not fit for purpose. I would take it back to them, plonk it on the counter and insist that they either activate Windows on there or replace it.

PCS will help you, once you register it with them, but you'll get a faster response from Curry's - and it's their problem.

Currys PCW are responsible.

The consumer rights act makes it very, very, clear:

I wouldn't want to wait around or take the chance that other things are wrong.

Curry’s are particularly bad at accepting responsibility for any issues.

They do tend to just accept things back with no arguments though, to be fair.

I really only use them when I am in a hurry for something and even then I tend to prefer to order it online for collection rather than browse.

Except the one time one saleswoman refused to sell me what I'd ordered online because I'd done it in the shop (was showing several in stock but none out on the shelves). Apparently it was illegal to do this. That was the exact word she used! :)

Was it the Intel Core i7-10700 Processor one? If so can you let me know what happened with it, even more so if you are in the North West Or North Wales!? Because I picked up that EXACT one from Wrexham on Saturday 1st August and have the same problem. After taking it back today with no fix found I then hunting down some stuff and it turns out there is no OEM in the firmware on the motherboard at all! I'm wondering if they have sold me your old one and said it was new!
