Cable queries and connections to BenQ SW2712U 4k monitor.

My new PCSpecialist computer works well when connected to the monitor with the supplied displayport lead. As I only have standard USB-C sockets on the pc, I cannot just use a USB-C cable to the monitor to use the memory card slot, the two USB 3 sockets in the monitor as well as send the video signal to the display. Obviously a USB-C cable can be used in tandem with a displayport to provide all connectivity.

My questions are...

Would it be best to fit an add-in card to provide video as well as supporting the other elements mentioned above through the USB- cable and what spec/supplier would be the recommendation?

In the PCSpecialist component list when creating a pc spec, mention is made of a card with a Thunderbolt connection, is this what I need and do PCSpecialist supply add on components?

And finally, if it is best (and economic) to continue with the displayport connection setup, what would be the recommendation for a decent quality cable supplier as I need a longer cable length (2.5 - 3m)

As always, all information gratefully received. Anthony

Your PC should have both USB-C and USB-A slots anyway...unless you've gone for some very weird config.

If you post your spec, some of the experts may be able to give you a definitive answer.

But, looking at the manual for that series of monitor, it looks like it uses a USB-B socket on the back of the monitor to connect to the PC specifically for this purpose...so you'd need a USB-B to USB-A or USB-C cable.

That is a lovely monitor, very nice indeed

For windows devices you'd use Display Port, then the USB C is just to carry data signals and has power delivery so it can charge devices like laptops (it's more aimed at MacBooks)

For a decent cable supplier, these are at the cheaper side, but I've had a lot of success with UGreen for USB cables and data cables generally, they have actually already started their Black Friday sale, worth having a look, really high quality despite very respectable prices

This is what I'd suggest for a display port cable, supports the latest DP 2.1 standard which is 16k @ 30Hz, you don't need to go this high for this monitor, but it just means it's latest standard so hopefully you can use it on a monitor in the future should you wish to (this cable has options at 1m, 2m and 3m)

Thank you TonyCarter and Spydertracks for your responses. You both obviously picked up on the mistyping of the BenQ SW272U monitor model in my thread title! It is indeed a very nice monitor and once my wiring is tidied up in the next few days, I shall concentrate on calibrating it and will get producing some prints.

Just for clarity I am happy to use two leads: a USB-C for power and data plus the Displayport one for the video. as it seems the easiest and possible most cost effect solution. I have taken your advice Spydertracks and purchased the UGreen lead today along with a 3m USB-C one too.

Thank you again... Anthony
