H60 generally isn't enough for anything, strongly recommend avoiding at all costs.would a h60 be enough to sufficiently cool a 3800x ?View attachment 27012
The H80i would be the lowest I would go.

Yeah just needed clarification dont know much about the 3800x and saw it in the op specH60 generally isn't enough for anything, strongly recommend avoiding at all costs.

The 3800x is only a 65w part same as the 3600, but even so, I wouldn’t go lower than the h80i.Yeah just needed clarification dont know much about the 3800x and saw it in the op spec
God, you're right.... my memory is getting bad!@SpyderTracks. I thought the 3800X has a 105W TDP and it was the 3700X that was a 65W.
I not sure I really see the value in the OP going for the 3800X vs say the 5600X. It's a Zen 2 processor vs. a Zen 3. Compared to the 5600X which is a 6 core processor, the 3800X is an 8 core processor but the overall multi-core performance is only 5% better. The single core performance is 20% worse.
If I'm right regarding the TDP, then the 3800X needs a better cooler than the 5600X. The 3800X also costs £62 more than the 5600X.
I think at the margin that favours going with the newer 5600X.

Good spot there, @DarTon. As a 3800X owner I was just in the process of tapping out that same info 👍God, you're right.... my memory is getting bad!
Mid life crisis, here I come!!!
I would wholeheartedly agree not going for Ryzen 3000 over 5000, the benefits that 5000 brought overall make the 5600x outperform the 3800x in a lot of areas and keep up in others.
