Hi there, I have two builds lined up, in the region of £2,600. My budget is a little flexible so if you have any suggestions that would be slightly over £2,600 that would be alright too.

Purpose for buying would be for gaming, and then just general use.

If anyone could take a moment to check if one is better than the other, or to even make any amendments to either builds, or to suggest a new one entirely, that would be great. I'm not the most knowledgeable about these things just want to game!

Heya! Neither build is ideal, really you should be on the Intel 12th DDR4 gen configurator for the best starting point- Intel have really smashed it out the park with 12th gen. Aside from that- I notice you've got a monitor in each spec, is that something you'll need as part of the budget?

Okay, I'll have a look in to that now.

Yeah ideally I can fetch a monitor in with that budget as well. If not, I would be able to stretch to have that budget just for the components, and additional for the monitor

A Number of changes we could make to reduce the price of this build

-TUF Z690 is ample for the 12700K, the STRIX is also white so not as nice aesthetically
-For gaming, there isn't a huge difference between 3200mhz and 3600mhz, especially with the Cas Latencies of the RAM PCS provides (they cancel eachother out)
-The 10GB variant of the 3080. Despite saying "Special Offer" it's still significantly more money than the 10GB version. The difference between them in gaming is minimal btw
-Still stupid fast secondary M.2 SSD bug Gen 3 will save some cash

I've also upped to a 1000W PSU. Considering how power demanding current gen components are, this is the minimum I'd recommend if you want to allow for a GPU or two upgrade in the life of the system. Minimum I'd consider without that precaution in place is 850W.

That said, with this spec, what budget to you have for monitor and peripherals? Ideally you should be pairing the 3080 with a 4K 144hz (Starts at ~£650) or 1440p superwide (Starts at ~£750) display unless you'll be playing Cyberpunk and MSFS only 😂

As for the monitor, I've found a couple below:

Gigabyte M32U 31.5 Inch SS IPS 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) 144Hz (£719)

GIGABYTE M28U 4K Ultra HD 28" IPS 144Hz Gaming Monitor - Black (£659)

Though if you had any further recommendations on the monitor, if PCS have them, that would be awesome Given you've wiped a fair bit off the total cost, I could go up to £1,000 for a monitor, if you feel it's worthwhile, or if the £650-£750 mark is perfectly adequate.

The 3 you've mentioned here are really our go to monitor choices 👌 On the Gigabyte's- the 28inch is the better monitor (looking at parts and performance) but the 32 inch is a more ideal size for 4K, which one you go for is up to you, would be happy suggesting either. The Samsung G9 is an insane monitor, we have a number of very happy customers here, although it depends a bit on what sort of games you'll be playing, I feel anyway- an owner might be able to give some more thoughts

Sorry, sorry, whenever I see this mentioned I get all gooey inside with the prospect of someone else owning it!

I can't big it up enough, it's such a profound experience, it feels in games like how it feels in VR, you get so utterly immersed because the curvature is so natural you really do feel like you're getting sucked into the game. It's very hard to describe, it's only something you'll appreciate once you've experienced, but I can't recommend it enough!

I did quite an in depth thread on it here, it does take some playing about to get it working optimally, although they've released some new firmware for it which may well have improved things further.
