If you have already placed the order I would probably cancel and start again from scratch. The board you have selected is an older generation, if you have opted for the B450.

It's very difficult to advise without knowing exactly what has been selected and why. Budget directly relates to performance in what you want to do also so it's good to have upper limits etc

Will I still be able to utilise the 980 pro to its full speed? Or will I need a pcie 4.0 mobo? Just wondering if its worth getting the 970 evo instead since the mobo in the configuration I believe supports 3.0 and not 4.0 lanes

It is a PCIe 4 mobo.

Just to clarify something you may have read somewhere, there are two types of PCIe lane: those connected directly to the CPU and those connected to the motherboard chipset and all modern motherboards have both types.

On B550 boards, the chipset PCIe lanes are version 3.0; on X570, they're version 4.0. However, on both, the CPU lanes are 4.0. All this boils down to you being able to use one 4.0 M.2 drive in your system!

This was most helpful wanted to know if the 980 was worth the extra and I think I might just bite the bullet. This thread was insanely helpful!! I was wasting money on case fans made a huge saving getting the corsair icue case which already has the same 3x fans I was paying for... not as nice a case but still money saved same results
