BSOD / Apparent Memory Issues with Brand New PC

Hi PCS Experts,

I really need some assistance...

I recently started up my new PC (Specs Below), installed a windows package. However I have been plagued with Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crashes for the last four days. I have spent most of the weekend trying to figure it out, however it seems to me it is a hardware / memory / RAM problem. Has anyone ever come across this before or has some pointers for me? I have contacted PCS however their phone waiting times are very long. Steps I have taken up to now include:
  • Re-installing drivers and installing again through AMD’s software download.
  • Re-installing windows several times (from scratch).
  • Many different DISM checks and troubleshooting.
  • Windows Memory Diagnostic Test (Which noted there was a hardware error, although not specific what this could be)

Have you made sure that the RAM, graphics card etc are all properly seated, take them out and put them back in, making sure they click into place

Thanks for that. I have spent quite a while trying to work through the options. It still seems unlikely to me there is a physical problem with the hardware... Especially given the amount it is tested before it leaves the warehouse

That the WIndows Memeory Diagnostic detected errors means there is a RAM issue.

However, you have an AMD build and four filled RAM slots - we've had lots of problems with this configuration reported on here. Try it with just two RAM sticks and see whether it's stable. If it is then try just the other two RAM sticks. If it works on just two sticks then this is a known (firmware) issue.

There does seem to have been a BIOS update that fixed this, so check your BIOS version and date. To do that enter msinfo32 into the Run command box, about a third of the way down the display that results is your BIOS version and date. What is that?

We've had a user report having no problems with four RAM sticks (on a Ryzen 7 5800X in an Asus ROG STRIX X570-F Gaming motherboard) with an AMI BIOS version of 2812 dated 04/11/2020. Is yours earlier or later than that? (For his build there were three later updates as well; 2816, 3001 and 3202).

It would be useful to upload all the dumps to the cloud with a link to them here. Those top-level analysis that you posted is just the tip of the iceberg. These are minidumps, if there is a kernel dump in C:\Windows\Memory.dmp that will be way more useful, please upload that to the cloud (it will be large). It's very instructive for us to see how issues like this present in dumps so we can better help people in the future. :)

I contacted PCS yesterday. They recommended I send the PC back for them to review / fix. If I'm honest I'm not sure I got through to the most knowledgable member of the team. I thought they might be able to fix via tweaking the software / computer.

In response to your points, I think you're spot on about the AMD 4 Slot RAM Issue.. (Your comments in RED)

When it gets to the RMA team you can be sure the really knowledgeable people will be looking at it. FWIW I reported this issue to the customer care team a couple of weeks ago and AFAIK they are investigating, so your problem shouldn't be a complete surprise to them.

That's pretty conclusive. Make sure PCS know to do that.

The 'firmware' is the BIOS. If there is a BIOS update that fixes this problem then PCS will (should) install it for you.

They have taken on some new people recently to cope with the increased volume of calls. If it is just a BIOS update that's needed then they certainly will do that for you. I'm not confident that it is that simple though....

I have no way of knowing whether 4 RAM cards can be made to run at 3600MHz. I know that PCS don't (yet) do 16GB 3600MHz cards so if they can't make the four 8GB 3600MHz cards work you'll need to discuss your options with them.

@Gimmles No unfortunately not. I'm driving my computer up yo PCS Warehouse and leaving it with them. You might be able to try calling them and updating the BIOS system over the phone and see if that works. I think my hardware has more issued though, hence the journey.

Trying 2 sticks of RAM didn't work, so I'm thinking definitely a CPU issue on my part... Perhaps the beta BIOS might help also. Who knows. Lol

That's not a memory dump. :) It looks like the output of an sfc command...?

The memory dump files in C:\Windows\Minidumps will have names like 010121-9640-01.dmp.
The kernel dump (there's likely only one) will be called C:\Windows\Memory.dmp.
