Arma 2 Steam + non Steam

I have Arma 2 on Steam and a mate who has Arma 2 not on steam. Does anyone know if you can play Arma 2 with Steam and non-steam games together? I think there is a way to get DayZ to work but I'm not really too interested in that just yet.

Any thoughts? Or is it just not possible? I couldn't find anything from a quick google search, but that's not to say I didn't miss anything!

Yeah I just tried to find a game he was hosting and couldn't - and then I hosted a game and he couldn't find mine either.

Why for no game findings :( Should I just be able to do it through the game itself or do I need to do something else?

Also, I want to actually have a go at Arma 2 properly first ;)

Just spoke with him and he has admitted requiring to 'update' his version significantly (apparently he only installed it today) - several profanities later we're going to have another go later.

I do think I'll have some DLC he might not have ,but that shouldn't stop us being able to play together surely? I just wont be able to select any DLC related stuff?

Cheers for the help though!

As far as I know there isn't any game that has different servers to Steam given that Steam doesn't actually host any servers and the only games Valve actually own are Steam only (for obvious reasons).

Ah cool! That's good to know, hopefully once my pall updates his game we should be able to play without issue :) Good times.

Cheers!

Is dayz basically The Walking Dead in game version? xD

Given that people in The Walking Dead actually kill zombies, no, Day Z is by no means The Walking Dead in game version, unless the series has suddenly turned into crawling around in long grass for 20KM distances that is. Seriously though, each to there own, I can appreciate that people have different tastes of games and although I do enjoy ARMA occasionally as a simulator, by no means do I enjoy Day Z, I do however enjoy War Z which is still somewhat a simulator, however you actually get to kill Zombies (from the very beginning of starting you can use your flashlight to beat their faces in).

Like I said though, each to there own and I'm not saying Day Z is by any means a bad game, I just personally prefer to kill zombies in a zombie game. I figured I'd say all this because Keenhail popped up on Steam a few days ago and said something along the lines of "Your lucky I'm not removing you from my friends list for playing War Z" at which point a "discussion" broke out between me and him about the two games, me trying to balance it out why he plainly just tried to flame War Z.

You've got me thinking now. I've been checking out the War Z forums and it sounds pretty cool. Pretty much join a server, hunt for food and equipment, don't get killed by zombies or other players, don't trust anyone?

So why can't you kill zombies in Day Z? Is it just a lot harder?

You can but DayZ was built on the ARMA engine which was never intended for it to be used the way DayZ runs on it
