Hiya, if you could read the following and update?

Hi,

So after reading the below posts shared the information necessary would be:

Monitor: any 140Hz HD monitor (MSI 24" Optix G24C6 - 1920 x 1080, 1MS, 144Hz) linked as the example.

Use: higher end gaming mainly (looking to run Darktide and other AAA titles at relatively high graphics without drops in frame rate and some occasionally basic work related functions, nothing would be too taxing, I am not interested in a VR rig due to current space constraints.

Budget: £3.5-4k

I’ve passively researched components for awhile hence being keen on DDR5, AMD motherboards and an NVidia GPU, I did want the ROG Strix 3080ti GPU (overclocked) the only other component I’m relatively certain about is the SEAGATE FIRECUDA SSD, although my preference for all of these components may be outdated.

So it’s basically just whatever can get the most bang for my money and be relatively future proof, the case is also only selected due to the GPU size (which again I’m open to changes on), I had planned to order all parts separately and build the PC myself although with the Mail strikes currently ongoing it would most likely lead to a lot of waiting on my part.

Thanks for the response.

The budget is including peripherals (monitor and keyboard + mouse) I have a pretty good headset already so that’s not a concern.

With a 3.5-4K budget I’m a bit confused as to why you’re looking to stay at 1080p? For new systems we tend to try and fit in to 1440p as a minimum, with this sort of budget you can comfortably get a 4k gaming PC plus a monitor to match. 4K is much more affordable these days, with a decent display coming as cheaply as £450.
There’s no point getting a system with a 4080 or 3080ti and then bottlenecking it behind a 1080p display.

I more meant stay at 1080 minimum, open to suggestions etc hence making the post, I was under the impression a good 4K monitor was pointless and overly expensive but that could be outdated, I’ve been out of the PC game for a good 7 years and only passively pick things up now so I’m basically a lost sheep at the moment 😂

Case
COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX TD500 MESH ARGB GAMING CASE Case selection isn’t the best right now, you do have the option to send in your own case, which might be a good option so you have a good airflow case that can fit the chonky 4080.
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i5 14-Core Processor i5-13600K (3.5GHz) 24MB Cache Latest gen CPU, will be fine at 4K gaming
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready Appropriate motherboard pairing, no benefit going to Z790
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB) DDR5 is still developing, it won’t give any performance boost until you get to the very top end stuff, and even then you’ll get negligible performance gains at 4K anyway. 16GB is ample for the vast majority of games, but nothing wrong with going up to 32GB.
Graphics Card
16GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4080 - HDMI, DP, LHR With the RX 7900XT/XTX coming out this week it might be worth waiting for third party reviews for these. It looks like they have the potential to match or beat the 4080 in rasterisation at a lower price point. If RT is something you’re keen on that is a fair argument to stick with Nvidia, but waiting to be able to make an informed decision certainly doesn’t hurt.
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W) Fast primary drive for OS and programs.
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 3325MB/sW)
Where budget allows it’s common practice to have a separate drive for games. This means that you have two separate lanes for your PC to carry out tasks (dumbed down a little) and also means that if you need to clean install windows or similar that you don’t have to reinstall all your games.
1st Storage Drive
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 256MB CACHE A HDD is always nice for general bulk storage like photos and music.

Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ - MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Good to spec the PSU a little higher to better handle transient spikes. It also means it isn’t running close to max capacity for long periods which is when the most wear and tear takes place, and it gives a bit of headroom for any future upgrades.
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
Corsair iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler A H115i cooler would be a good pairing for only an extra £6, definitely worth changing in if ordering your own case in.
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING

Monitor wise you have a few options. At the top end you can get something like the Samsung G7 Neo which gets you a QD-LED true HDR gaming experience. That is a bit pricey at £1100 but has had fantastic reviews.
At the low end you can go all the way down to the £450 Gigabyte M28U, which while not offering high contrast or HDR, does still get you a 4K 144hz IPS gaming display.

Keyboard and mouse are a little more personalised choices. I ordered mine based on forum recommendations and I can personally recommend the Corsair K70 keyboard, and the Razer Deathadder V2 mouse.

Wow thanks for the in-depth help here, really appreciated, I’ve used the original gen deathadder chroma and loved it, it’s about the right size for my hand, the keyboard I’m not too fussed about as long as it’s mechanical, would you have any recommendations for better case pairings? (Brands etc) I’ve been doing a bit of digging and I’m struggling to find a source I trust for them.

The monitors I’ll have to do some more digging on based on your recommendations.

Again thanks so much for this, I’ve been dying to get a new PC but keep holding off based on GPU drops and market spikes etc.

Took some of your feedback on board and edited the build slightly, additional fans, larger case and the recommended cooling system, reckon this will have sufficient airflow to maximise efficiency and component life?
