Any advice or recomendations on this spec?

My current PC is getting long in the tooth and I need a new one. I do a fair bit of gaming but also developing - hence wanting 32GB RAM.

Currently I have 2x 1920x1200 monitors (refresh unknown) - but I'd like to upgrade one of them to maybe something like a curved 27" 1440p so any recommendations there please? Also like this to work with a VR headset (currently an Oculus Rift but again looking to upgrade that sometime)

Budget ~£2k (not including monitor - which will be into next year's budget at some point, but the less spent on the PC the sooner I can buy a monitor)

I appreciate that I absolutely don't _need_ a 3080 GPU but still tempted to bump that up.

I have no clue on motherboards or coolers or fans so this is from what I've read/remembered from other posts here.

Appreciate any and all comments/advice/ridicule etc.

Monitor wise, it’s best to see what’s being discounted at the time of purchase, but generally at 1440p you’re looking at a flat IPS panel these days. They are widely regarded as the superior option these days and are much more affordable, no longer commanding a heavy premium over their curved, VA counterparts.

Going for a beefier, “overkill” GPU is something that I do see a lot on posts. In almost all cases we spec to the current system requirements as it’s almost impossible to “future proof” a GPU due to how large generational improvements are, a great example of this is the 3070 trading blows with the previous gen’s flagship 2080ti.

The bottom line is that we are only here to advise, it’s your money, and your purchase, and you are welcome to heed as much of it, or as little of it, as you want. If you want to get an overkill GPU then you’re welcome to, but I would never condone sacrificing other components for a better graphics card that you’ll likely swap out in the next few years anyway.

Many thanks @MrWilson - that's just the sort of thing I was after, what to trade off etc. The only thing was I quite liked the look of the case - looks a bit like a HAL 9000! But I will consider this and the other stuff/

If the motherboard only does RGB not ARGB will it still work with the case fans or do they get changed out (or is Aura Sync RGB mean addressable (i.e. ARGB?) )

Thanks again

*UPDATE* Just checked that motherboard more and it looks like it has an ARGB header as well.
