My PC is overdue an upgrade.

I'm a motion designer mostly working in After Effects (2d / 3d animation) plus photoshop.

Can you suggest some upgrades I can make to my PC.

These are two items I'm considering:
- GeForce RTX 4080 16GB
- AMD Ryzen 9 5950X Processor (16C/32T, 72MB Cache, Up to 4.9 GHz Max Boost)

Would these be compatible with my current model?

Current specs:
CORSAIR iCUE 220T RGB AIRFLOW MID TOWER GAMING CASE
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core CPU (3.8GHz-4.7GHz/36MB CACHE/AM4)
ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0) - ARGB
64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (4 x 16GB)
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti - HDMI, DP
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 256MB CACHE
500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W)
1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)
CORSAIR 550W TXm SERIESTM SEMI-MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Corsair H100i RGB PLATINUM Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler

Thanks so much for any assistance!

It's a shame you didn't follow advice on the PSU when you bought it, you'd have to replace the PSU to fit a decent GPU which is a challenge.

You'd want a 1000w ideally to allow for big GPU's.

The 5950X would also be a good shout and is quite good value these days.

Your PSU is seriously underpowered for what you’re after, and the 220T case may not fit a normal-length 4080 (the FE models seem to be about the shortest at 304mm) as it’s quite a small case (it’s what I have, with a 4090FE, but it’s very tight to the front fans).

Thanks guys.

I can order a new case then, no problem.
Any case you'd recommend?
This was suggested before: COOLERMASTER MASTERCASE H500 ARGB GAMING CASE

'You'd want a 1000w ideally to allow for big GPU's.'
What is this relating to? Would you mind recommending?

I'm open to upgrading any part of this which is necessary to make it powerful.

Any recommendations for PSU? Or what I should be looking out for? Thanks

Well, I think 1000w Corsair would be the bare minimum considering the transient spikes the 40-series GPUs can deliver…but for future-proofing I’d go for one of the new ATX3 Shift models.

You’re probably going to need new cabling anyway as the TX PSU you currently have isn’t fully modular, so whether it’s a full Type4 or Type5 Corsair set will depend on whether you go for the older (ATX2) or newer (ATX3) PS….the added advantage of the ATX3 models are their much better handling of the transient spikes from the 40-series GPUs.

Thanks Tony, appreciate the advice.

After Effects isn't great a utilising GPU so for now I'm going to leave the GPU.

Upgrades I think I'll go with:
- CORSAIR RM1000x SHIFT Modular ATX PSU - 1000 W (with cables)
- AMD Ryzen 9 5950X Processor (16C/32T, 72MB Cache, Up to 4.9 GHz Max Boost)

Then later down the line when I upgrade the GPU, I'll eventually get a new case.

Do you think the above upgrades will fit in my current case? Or suggest I get a new case now? In which case, if you could suggest a case please, I'll add that to the list.
