iv been waiting for this to come into stock for about 3 weeks and it said the ETA was on the 12/10/24 but now only being the 11/10/24 its changed to 22/10/24 ? do you think they will actually become available? or what would the next best CPU to get for gaming ? thanks.

If you don't want to wait, and it's for gaming, then the next best option is the more expensive 7950X3D.

If you don't mind a 10-20% drop in gaming performance @ 1080p, 5-10% less @ 1440p and less than 5% @ 4k then the 9700X is at a similar price point to the 7800X3D.

If it's for both gaming and multi-core workloads, then the 9700X does pick up some points as the 7800X3D is not the fastest at that sort of stuff as those usages don't take advantage of the 3D v-cache.

Here's a Gamers Nexus link to read more about their relative performance (there's a video in there too showing the same stuff)...

There's also unexpected/unpredicted supply chain shortages of X3D parts...

I too am waiting on this! Where do you find the information that states the delay?

Go to your config, change the processor to the 7800X3D and press 'Proceed'...then a pop-up will tell you the ETA...

At this point, with the rumour mill chundering, I would hold out for the 9800X3D. If the rumours are true, it'll be very special. Even if they are not, there should be a better availability of the remaining 7800X3Ds by that point.

The 7800X3D is the best thing since sliced bread and I wouldn't buy one right now. I genuinely think there's a new king in town and the shoes won't be close to fitting. AMD need something special and they know it, they're rolling the dice IMO.

I would 100% be waiting for the 9000X3D CPU's at this point, I would also be holding out for the 5000 series RTX GPU's.

It's not a good time to be buying last gen, right at the end of the cycle, you pay far more for lesser performance.

It's now delayed until 15th November lol. Ima just choose a different CPU at this point
The problem is, which CPU do you go for...especially with the 9000X3D CPU rumoured to be coming at the end of the month (which possibly explains the constant delays of the older 7800X3D) ;)

tbh it's not like I'm some extreme gamer, I was just leaning towards 7800X3D bc it was the best gaming CPU on the market haha

Well, the 9700X is right between the 7700X and 7800X3D for gaming performance, but is more efficient than both...but at the same price as the 7800X3D (the 9800X3D will probably also be at a premium price at launch).

The average performance between the 3 is about 20% - with the 9700X being about 10% above the 7700X and 10% below the 7800X3D. Of course in some games/resolutions the difference between the 7700 and 9700 is less than 5% and the 7800X3D is 25% faster...but you'd have to go into individual benchmarks for that level of detail.

yeah at this point im prepared to wait for the 9800x3d. i think availability will around 7th nov and as for pricing iv heard it wont be much more than the 7800x3d is now. think around $400 - $500 ? not sure how accurate this information is though. im assuming this will over take the 7800x3d in performance and become the best cpu for gaming ?

Yes, that's the plan...although the 'leaks' I've seen are only showing a 0-15% gaming performance increase at 1080p

...but we won't know for sure until all the tech channels have there own samples to test with.
