AMD/Nvidia Build Check

Uses - Gaming , YouTube , monitor is 1440p 165hz. No plans to go to 4k

Max Budget - €2640

Parts to be added from previous build:

3TB HDD (Storage)
1tb Crucial SSD
1tb Intel 670 NVMe
Windows license
Usual supporting bits

Main Concerns/Queries:
Just a check to make sure I’m getting value for money.
I know the 9070xt is very close and beats the 5070ti in some games but I’ve had horrors with older AMD cards and their drivers and my last two nvidia never had any issues.
The PSU is slight overkill but I'd rather overspend on it and get a little more headroom for a mid life upgrade.
The cooler I'll have to see how it goes, if its not performing I'll order a quiet air cooler outside of PCS as they're selection is pretty poor.

Changed the mobo to the X870 for a couple euro more, dropped to the corsair nvme to cover the change in cost and had to change the GPU model to a slightly more expensive one as the first one went out of stock. So ordered this.

Could you possibly include the reconfigurable link in your specs?
It would be much easy to suggest the changes to make the system more balanced than it is currently.

Shame your budget isn't 200 Euros more as this would be a better all-round system (haven't included the GPU as the configurator won't allow it as it's out of stock till May 1st)..comes to 2,862 Euros with the 5070Ti:

Regarding your mention of AMD cards: They are so much better nowadays..on the whole, as relaible as NVIDIA whilst costing a lot less.

This was my absolute upper limit and even at that ,the prices are making me queasy even though I know that’s just how it is now.

I had initially picked the 1000w PSU but once the other card became unavailable it pushed it outside of the budget unfortunately.

I have a 120 Peerless Assassin ordered to cover the cooling for when it arrives, I liked none of the AIO or air coolers PCS have on offer. Also the Fractal North XL went out of stock and with the RGB ram ( the only cl30 6000mhz) it wouldn’t fit top mounted and I dislike the idea of front mounted AIO’s

As for the AMD card, I’ve been reading around and I seen they’re not nearly as bad as they used to be but they still have they’re issues. The 5070ti seems to have much better 1% lows while also coming with dlss4 and frame gen which should hopefully mean it stays relevant at higher settings for longer. FSR on my brothers machine didnt look as good to me

Really like the case as well, it’s one of those things I really wanted to fit into the budget

You need to keep updated, if you've seen any reviews of the 5000 series nvidia, it's been major issues with black screens and BSODs

Plus missing hardware specifications leading to 12% reduced performance:

Plus the connector issue

It's just been a massive mess up

AMD are not what they used to be since the tragedy that was the RX 5000 series, they invested hugely in coders and have turned things around, in the same way they did with Ryzen CPU's against intel. It's the same for NVidia, they are not the GPU's they used to be.

You can't compare old AMD with new, they're entirely different companies with vastly polarised attitudes.

FSR on my brothers machine didnt look as good to me

Again, you need to be up to date, look at any reviews of the new FSR4

and frame gen which should hopefully mean it stays relevant at higher settings for longer.
4 x Frame Gen on Nvidia 5000 has been widely debunked, again, you need to be up to date with your knowledge

I'm not necessarily saying go with AMD GPU, but your fears are based on out of date information, make an informed decision on current state of play.

PCS are checking to make sure I don’t receive one of the .5% stock of cards missing the ROP

The 5070ti doesn’t suffer from the connectors issue

FSR4 is better than FSR3 but it’s still not dlss4 level to be fair, some reviews say it’s not even up to dlss3 in some games

I know frame gen isn’t a magic button but it is a benefit.

Not sure why you thought I hadn’t been up to date

Is the auros really worth the premium over the eagle mobo?

As always when I’m building/buying a new pc I’m wary of cost creep for benifits on paper but no real world advantages to me

I know frame gen isn’t a magic button but it is a benefit.
Both AMD and Nvidia have frame gen. Nvidia have MFG on the 5000 series but if you look at the links it worsens the experience, doesn’t improve it, it’s not viable for gaming, so frame gen is the same on Nvidia vs AMD

MFG is not a benefit

The 5070ti doesn’t suffer from the connectors issue
Again, doesnt seem you’re aware of what the connector issue is, it’s about load balancing so the entire load of the GPU can travel down only 2 wires if the connector isn’t properly seated. Doesn’t matter which card, the same issues are present due to the poor implementation on Nvidia GPU Side on the 4000 and 5000 series. It's also become apparent that some PSU's pins are not standard length, so this can exacerbate the issue.

You seem to have ignored all the driver issues also.

But your call

The reviews clearly say it’s a benefit if you can push 100fps but below that it is not worth it.

It’s all 5090 references, the cable is the same but the power draw isn’t. Look if you can find something where someone says here’s my real world experience with my 5070ti connector problems I’ll seriously consider it, even if my warranty would cover the issue. Again though, I’m aware of what the possible issue is.

As for the driver issues, if you google 9070xt problems you’ll also find driver issues, even my current card that’s been rock solid the 3060ti will find threads and blogs about driver issues. Nvidia has already released driver updates for the black screen issue and it seems to be resolved for 90% of people

Feel like I’m on trial here explaining why I want the card, can we just let it drop

Lols, why is it people get angry when you provide 3rd party verifiable information to enlighten them on something they may not be aware of? It’s so weird.

5070ti is half the power and so it should be OK. The sloppiness and laziness of the power implementation would still put me off the product. What other short cuts might they have made in quality for instance?

The Aorus Elite is a better chipset and has more features than the Eagle (better VRM, better audio codec, post code, better M.2 slots, etc.); if you don't need those features, go with the Eagle (or a B850 ASUS TUF).

To fit a 5070ti, you need to boost your budget slightly: the total will be more than 2700€.

The power is irrelevant though, it’s the amperage build up of connectors aren’t seated correctly due to the pins on PSU connectors being non standard length or the connector not fully seated.

The 12V6x2 cable is only rated for 9amps on each cable.

And due to the design of the new cards, it’s only load balanced on 2 pins out of 12

So even on a 250w 5070, you have the potential of 10.4 amps down each of the 2 pins

The maths is 250w / 12V = 20.83Amps / 2 per wire

That would lead to eventual melting over the long term

You’ve been passive aggressive in all your posts in here, I’ve made my decision on the card as I said and even gave my reasoning. Please have the discussion about the card somewhere else.

I had initially picked the B850 TUF but seen the Eagle was only a small amount more for the x870.

I’ll look into the two boards and see if it has more usability for me thanks.

I changed the 1tb Nvme for a 512gb and changed the 850w for 1000w PSU. I have my current one 12 years through multiple builds so in the end it makes sense to change it. I can always pick up a faster/bigger nvme down the line if I need it, as it stands I’ve still a lot of room on my current pc.

How have I been passive aggressive? If you could highlight specific parts? Genuinely have zero understanding of how you could have taken anything I’ve said personally. I suspect you have a bee in your bonnet historically that doesn't match up to this thread, I have no idea what but am totally open to understanding.

What I said wasn’t to influence your buying decision, only to make you aware as from your reasons for not going AMD your basis for those fears were outdated
