Hi all

So details have leaked for the next AM5 socket hitting motherboards in 2022.

Totally new socket design following intels LGA pins being part of the motherboard rather than the CPU (very welcome).

Likely no PCIe5 support, not that that’s going to matter for GPUs at all, but could affect storage speeds.

There will be DDR5 support.

It would mean that there would be no compatibility with any existing CPU’s.

I was reading about some initial info the other day. I'm surprised at the lack of PCIe 5.0 support I must say - even if it was just to be on the X670 boards. Apart from the new CPU's it will just be DDR5 as a new offering over existing chipset series.

Having said that, the potential 25% IPC gain on the CPU's would be huge and a 5nm process to boot will see things stay nice and efficient. It is going to be an exciting year next year me thinks!
