Affordable 4k 144hz monitor to pair with RTX 3080

Hey all,

Ive just been having fun with my new PC specialist 3080 build. However, its been quite frustrating that most of the affordable 4k 144Hz monitors are out of stock

The ones ive been looking at following suggestions in this forum are:

Both great monitors.

They've just finished the Christmas sales where they clear out all stocks ready for the new models that arrive in January.

I do think the only option is to wait for stocks to come back in. It does appear all stocks of the affordable models are out.

The other options at this price are the

Samsung 28" G70A (otherwise known as G7 4k)

Thanks for the suggestion - Samsung one looks good but also out of stock on curry’s and Amazon.
Anyone here have experience with pre-ordering on overclockers and how reliable they are with updating people on ETA ?

I've used Overclockers for years and they are extremely respectable.

Can't comment on ETA info specifically, but they're an excellent company generally.

Never bought from CCL myself so no idea on their returns/support. The monitor itself had pretty good reviews (see Rtings etc) but it's one of the older 4K fast refresh monitors so it isn't HDMI 2.1.

I ordered some fans that had a ETA and they arrived before the date. Only by 1 or 2 days.

If I remember the date on the website changed twice before I got them slightly early. I don't remember getting any notifications about the ETA date being earlier, not sure though.

Thanks. The only issue is that that the description for the gigabyte monitor says - no available ETA, so a bit risky to fork out that much if it ends up coming in 2-3 months when the rest of the sites start getting stock back.

Ill just have to keep an eye out and hopefully restock arrives before end of month.

I would suggest pre ordering personally, this was mainstream new before Christmas, and most manufacturers did crazy sales to clear stocks.

I'm expecting monitors to be in short supply for a few months until production gets back to normal.

It could be a smart idea to buy now, rather than wait, as supply issues threaten panel production

Ah right didnt know that. OK will have a look.
Btw - are the inbuilt speakers decent or do people normally get speakers separately ?
Also, any point in prioritising a 165Hz over 144Hz or is the difference not noticeable ?

In built speakers are never recommended they'll be pretty poor on any monitor, there just isn't enough room for diaphragm movement. It would always be suggested for a speaker setup or headphones.

Anything over 120hz is barely noticeable for most people, 144 - 165 is literally meaningless.

What's your budget?

I would certainly recommend a 2.1 system as a minimum (normal 2 channel plus a small sub).

You've got a top of the line system there, sound makes the experience that much more enveloping, I wouldn't cheap out on speakers, you don't need to spend masses at all, I'm not suggesting that, but it's worth getting a decent set.

But all depends on budget.

£100-£150

Obviously if can get a decent set for less than that then all the better. On the other hand, if need to stretch it slightly then can do so - but i would rather invest in something that lasts a long time than breaks down in a year or so.

That's a healthy range, there's a few options within budget, easily.

These Logitech Z407's @ £80 are really good value, they initially retailed at double the cost, problem is stocks are crazy low, looks like lead time on Amazon is 1month, only other place I can find them is eBay


Or Logitech Z533 @ £95 and ACTUALLY IN STOCK!!!


It does appear stocks are crazy at the moment.

The other manufacturers I'd look at, although I couldn't find any stocks are Edifier (great stuff if you can find a deal), Harmon Kardon, Razer (although very expensive).

The ones I would always recommend which are a statement piece as well as having incredible sound (as an owner of the original version) if your budget is stretchable.

These really are incredible speakers if you're willing to make an investment and audio is important to you. Worth a hell of a lot more than they cost, I guarantee. These were originally released over 20 years ago, but became so iconic, they re released them in 2014

What about the 32 inch version of the Gigabyte one, is that too big?

Amazon have that one, £80 more than the 28inch
