Advices for gaming laptop

Hello everyone,

I m looking to buy a new laptop, for gaming purposes and I have a few questions :
  • First of all, do you know if it is possible to ask for a dual boot Windows - Ubuntu ? It seems not possible in the configurator although it would be very nice if I didn't need to install it myself...
So I am wondering what would be the "best" configuration mostly for gaming purpose in the range of 1600-1800£ (1800-2000€) including a monitor. The laptop needs to have a decent battery (although it will be plugged in most of the time). I play games using the RAM as well as games heavily using the CPU :)

Among my interrogations :
- Should I go with a RTX2060 or a 2070 ? Is there much a difference in recent games between both ?
- Which laptop should I go with ? (given the same configuration what are the differences except for esthetics ?)
- Dead pixel warranty : do you guys usually take it or not ?
- Should I go with 32GB Ram ? (although games would be ok with 16GB, having some extra can always be great as I am not sure if the build will allow me to add extra 16GB in the case I find out I need it... Especially if I can have a dual boot Ubuntu for coding ;) )

Do not hesitate to post some configs you think would be suiting me, thank you !

PCS only support windows, so any dual boot would need to be done by yourself.

There won't be any performance difference between either card, but the benefit of the 2070 is that it will last a lot longer. On a laptop you can't upgrade the GPU and it will be the first bottleneck so it's advised to spec the highest card you can afford

- Which laptop should I go with ? (given the same configuration what are the differences except for esthetics ?)
Totally depends on your use case, you mention coding and gaming, anything else?

- Dead pixel warranty : do you guys usually take it or not ?
I personally did, for the sake of not much money it's definitely worth it.

For gaming, there's no benefit to over 16Gb, no game even uses that much currently. Only you know if your coding requires it, but I would imagine not. You can add more RAM or SSD's as you like, and it won't affect warranty.

Thank you for the answers and proposed configuration :)

Mostly gaming, potentially coding yes (but as Cloud is developping I don't need too much RAM for it, that's pretty much it (I don't do picture editing / video editing)

Does the choice of external monitor impact the config in any way ? What monitor would you advise (In fact, this will be my first time to use an external monitor, I used to have only the laptop monitor)

Although I still have a few interrogations :

- I see in most of the configurations you chose the 15"6 version instead of the 17"3, any particular reason about that ?
- I would like a second SSD Drive to have more storage, but I m not sure about which one to take
- Would you advise to buy the Monitor on PCS ?

Just unless specifically asked, we'd always assume 15"

The PCS would be ample for secondary storage as speed isnt' so important
- Would you advise to buy the Monitor on PCS ?
Depends what you need, if it's for gaming, they have an MSI and IIyama at this level which may be suitable, but they're range isn't great.

My main question is about the temp : how the Defiance will handle the temp of the CPU / GPU ? There is not much reviews on the forum about this
