Advice with new PC

Keep in mind that we didn't recommend the cooler or the PSU either. I would strongly suggest you follow the recommended choices here but as always, they're up to you.

If we thought a PCS 240 and 650w PSU were good choices we would suggest them. We don't aim at the tried and tested parts because they're expensive ;)

Yes, I went for pretty much the spec you suggested. Decided that 512gb was really plenty for the OS disk and went with 850PSU and the cooler you suggested. Went for the SOLIDGM disks instead of Samsung. Came in a little over £2k. Should keep me happy for years.
I checked my old box. Bought in 2012! I'd upgraded a lot. New CPU, SSD's, graphcs and wifi etc.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

With the AM5 you'll have the opportunity to upgrade the CPU down the line also. It's going to be a fantastic build for you, I'm sure you will be happy.

If you get the chance, post up with your thoughts once you have received it and put it through its paces.

Ok, I've got the pc. Attached is the final spec.

I'm very happy with it so far. It is very smooth and quiet and fast. All software runs very quickly. It's incredibly smart looking next to my old machine. A huge step up.

I have one minor problem. The wifi aerial. It seems to have a non standard plastic connector plug. My old wifi card (TP LINK AX3000) has proper gold connectors that screw in and the aerial has a longer cable. I need the longer cable but I can't find a compatible aerial or adapter for the old aerial which has a longer cable.

I could put the old card in but it's probably a step down from the on board wifi.

Any suggestions?

The motherboard connections are for the onboard wifi and antenna.

You wanted to use your TP-Link add-in card, so you'd use the antennae that came with that...connected to the add-in card (which I assume you've installed nearer the bottom of the motherboard, and installed any software needed for it)...NOT the motherboard antenna!

You may also have to disable the onboard wifi (from devices settings) if it creates a conflict.

Thanks @TonyCarter, I was originally planning to do that but I can't really find out if my old card offers any benefits over the new onboard wifi (besides having proper connectors). If the ob is better I should stick with that and find an aerial with a longer cable.

Why do you need a longer cable? Can you not put the antenna next to / on top of the case (some are magnetic).

Although I don't know why Gigabyte decided to change their antenna connection from the standard that everyone else uses to a so called 'EZ-plug'???

I want to put the machine under my desk and run the cable out from the back of the machine to a mount higher up to get a better signal since the wifi box is upstairs. I can manage but it's not ideal. A proprietary plug like this EZ-plug seems to be causing others online the same trouble.

I would try it placed as best you can and see how the signal fairs.

There's no point in trying to fix it if it isn't broken. If it's actually causing a performance issue then it's worth looking to see if that can be remedied.
