Advice on import to Switzerland

Hi all,

sorry if this has been mentioned already somewhere or if this is not the right forum section.

I would like to order a new PC from PCSPECIALIST (Cruiser iCUE Goliath) for delivery to Switzerland.
Is the price indicated in CHF (CHF 2'929.00 including VAT and delivery) including import tax and VAT payable in Switzerland on import of goods from abroad?

I expect UPS would charge this on delivery, if so, any idea how much would that be? in case local VAT is payable here would I need to pay the price without VAT to PCSPECIALIST?

thank you for clarification.

Best bet is to ask pc specialist directly, this is not an official support channel and they rarely come on here

So long as you’re ordering through the swiss site at pcspecialist.ch then it factors in your import charges and PCs will pay those on your behalf so you don’t have to pay any further

This is because PCS are tax registered in switzerland

But I would strongly recommend getting some advice on your specs, pre-builds aren’t recommended as they tend not cut down on the platform and hence aren’t upgradable

thank you for advices :)

I'll check with PCS directly then if they may confirm, but actually if the price is already all inclusive that would be good news.

Also I'll put the spec in a separate post.

so I have checked with PCS support and they replied as follows

"
At the time of delivery, the courier will contact you for the payment of import taxes and Swiss VAT.
Since these charges are applied directly by the courier, we are unfortunately unable to provide an exact amount in advance.
The final cost will depend on Swiss import regulations and the courier’s processing fees.
"
I'm a bit confused now, as I should be paying then the price without VAT to PCS.

Also I find it a bit misleading to sell PCs on a swiss domain showing prices in CHF and not mentioning additional local taxes to apply.
People may think they are buying a PC from a swiss vendor. Just a thought.

Urm, I'm not sure that's correct actually

So long as you're actually ordering for delivery to switzerland and not using that site for ordering to a neighbouring country, then they are VAT registered for that service which is why it takes the VAT payment at time of purchase on the .ch domain.

But you're absolutely right, if the VAT were being collected by the courier, then they wouldn't be including that in the initial payment like for instance if you order on the UK website and change the delivery country to Malta, it then removes the VAT as they aren't VAT registered in that country

That is unless they've lost VAT registration in Switzerland but just haven't updated the website

I hate to go against the advice you've been given, but personally, I'd question if it was correct and ask again.

Thank you for taking time to answer. I indeed was of the same opinion and doubted they first reply. Without even asking again they came back to me confirming no additional VAT and duties apply.

"
I sincerely apologize for the incorrect information provided earlier.
After verifying with the Finance Team, I can confirm that Swiss VAT is already included in the quoted price.
All Swiss orders now go through our UK entity, and Swiss VAT is applied at checkout.
Therefore, there will be no additional VAT or customs duties to pay upon delivery.

"

As for the VAT, I'm quite sure they are right this time, I'm not so sure about the duties. Those are applied at import and charged by the courier based on the weight although having checked on the official swiss customs website (source link) it seems there is 0% duty applied on personal computers imported from UK as long as I got the HS code right :)

If I decide to order and get the delivery I will post here the result for future posisble buyers in Switzerland.

thanks for help.
