Advice appreciated - Combined work and gaming

Hi there.

I need a Laptop that is both able to support some processor heavy data manipulations, and also a gaming laptop (short version - I work in IT, frequently away from home, and need a machine I can use for work during the day - but I can also use when bored in a hotel for games).

The type of games I am looking at tend to be the less flashy-screen-update-frame-rate type, more the processor heavy strategy type (Civ V remains a favourite for example).

The spec is below - feel free to suggest changes (also anywhere obvious to save money is always good!!)

Thanks all!

We love you Ukraine
New models with new CPUs and GPUs are being released in march, I wouldn’t buy any of the current models, the increase in both performance and efficiency in the upcoming models is substantial

Thanks for the update - any idea of how good the improvement is likely to be? I am using an old (not ancient, no, no just.... "experienced") laptop at the moment that sometimes blue-screens under load (I suspect the chip is overheating, so I have it raised, a fan underneath it etc.).

That said - I can wait if there is likely to be a genuinely significant improvement. The situation with PCs (as everyone knows) is that there is "always" a new improvement due shortly.... :)

Cheers

It’s a significant improvement on the AMD side, I wouldn’t even consider an Intel laptop at this stage

Just sounds like your laptop needs a repaste, standard maintenance on laptops, if it’s bluescreening it’s well past a service

What is this word "service"? :) (that may give you a clue....)

A good point - I will try to get it serviced then (I assume a local PC shop? I tend to distrust major chains due to past experience, but if anyone can recommend one, I can go with it. That would see me though to later in the year then.

Also - only ever had AMDs once, and that was a LONG time ago, and it had some issues. Kind of poisoned the well abit, but again, if there are significant good parts these days, willing to give it a go again (Intel have really not won me over after the debacle of the last year or two, so happy to move back to AMDs I think)

Thanks again

Part of owning a custom laptop is doing such things yourself
