Hi, Im not sure if this is the best thread to ask so apologies if not.

I have an intel 670p ssd in my asus prime b550, i’d like to buy a samsung 980 pro and put in the PCle 4.0 slot and then put my intel 670p into the 2nd PCle 3.0 slot, would this work? I have my OS and games on my intel ssd at the moment but will transfer the games onto the 980 pro and use existing 670p as my os and other small files. Thanks.

Ok, you're on the right tracks, however what you want to do is put the 980 pro in the PCIe 4.0 slot as you suggested, then clean install W10 to this drive, and then put the 670p in the other slot

yes that's the reason for the faster drive to put the OS on, in fact what i would recommend is back up all your games and files to an external drive, then having installed both drives follow the following procedure to clean install to the 980:

Download a new copy of Windows using the Media Creation Tool to an 8GB (min) USB.
Boot that USB and choose a Custom Install.
Delete all UEFI partitions on the system drive (EFI System, Recovery, MSR Reserved, Primary). This will on the existing 670, and will delete EVERYTHING on there
Select the 980 and click the Next button. The installer will create the correct partitions and install Windows.
Run Windows Update repeatedly, even across reboots, until no more updates are found.
You may need/want to download and install the latest graphics driver from the Nvidia/AMD website (they change so regularly the latest version isn't always in the Windows libraries).

After you've got windows all configured, go into disk management and you'll see that the 670 is showing as unallocated space, right click on it and create a simple partition, you'll now be able copy all your backed up files and games back onto the 670
