A first PC build that's a bit different - appreciate any advice

Hi guys,

This is my first PC build and I'm pretty nervous about spending money before I've had the build looked at by people who know what they're talking about! It's specifically NOT for gaming, hence the lack of a decent GPU. Instead, it's for running some processor intensive software. The software will be running simulations for up to 24h at a time. Requirements: 8 cores max and 32GB RAM.

Any feedback would be massively appreciated!

A few things I'm unsure about:
- Processor: I need 8 cores. Would i notice much difference between the 3700x and 3800xt? Is the ~£70 difference in price worth it?
- RAM: Is the RAM speed that important?
- GPU: Will upgrade at a later date when prices come down. Just need to be able to hook up a monitor and support Open GL 2.0.
- Power supply: Totally clueless
- Motherboard: Totally clueless
- Storage: Will only having 256gb make the PC run slower? I have an external hard-drive already so storage space isn't too much of a problem.

I could max out at about £1000 total.

overall i would say what you are using the PC for is very good. I dont see any bottlenecks at all! One recommendation i would recommend would be to change the hard drive to SSD however i if you are not willing to do that maybe consider making it a bigger hard drive 1 TB i would personally recommend.

over all looks good no important changes just a few recommendations that may benefit you in the long term and will act better.

I’ve made a couple of tweaks. You will want faster ram with AMD CPUs to get the most out them, changed to a better PSU to support any future upgrades, added silver warrently for a fiver.

The m.2 drive will improve overall performance and loading times massively
