A bit underwhelmed with high-res screen options

My Defiance Model 1 has a 2880x1620 resolution (3K) and was purchased in 2015. It runs great still, but the left screen hinge is hanging on by a thread and I was thinking to just replace the laptop.

Was looking to Spend £1500+ on a new laptop, had my eyes on the Defiance V RTX, but it only has a 1080p screen? I saw the Defiance V (non-RTX version with big bezels) has a QHD option, but that only comes with the 1060 graphics card and not the superior 1070? Is this a joke?

Does anyone know if there will be more choice in regards to screens in the near future? This is the only thing holding me back from making a purchase right now. A high res screen paired with a RTX 2060 or GTX 1070 would be great.

I think quite a few people would agree with you that the screen options are a bit lacklustre at the higher end.

At least, there seems to be quite a bit of support for 1440p high refresh gsync screens on the forums. PCS had previously indicated to some people that these might be coming late spring / early summer, but we've not seen any sign.

I can only suggest you ask them directly. Let us know what they say if you do.

So I emailed them late at night, and quite impressively PCSpecialist replied very promptly at 7:30am. What time do these poor guys start work?? lol

Anyway, the response was:

"Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding our products, I did check into this not so long ago as a few people have asked however at this moment in time our purchasing team are trying to source stock of compatible screens. I have no set ETA when and if additional screens will be added but we do always try to offer all the options we can and I can assure you that we are trying our best to get alternative choices.

Best Wishes,"

Make of that as you will. I assumed they just sourced the parts from Clevo, but I don't really know how this company or market works. I'm moving to Germany in August, so I suppose I can wait a little longer. But from the looks of it, PCSpecialist might not be able to offer any options for me in time. Fingers crossed.

Not overly keen on editing photos and videos on a 1080p screen. At least games would look better. Oh decisions decisions decisions...

Hi

I will be buying a new laptop shortly for (largely) photo editing and I would have preferred a glossy screen, unfortunately no options there either.

Have you checked out the Octane series, they have 4k options with the GPU that you have mentioned?

No chance. I wouldn't even consider that a laptop. God knows how much just the 330 watt power brick weighs.

Nice, I didn't notice that before. I will keep an open mind and have this as a possible option for me. Will be waiting to see if anything else pops up in the meantime. Thank you.
