7.1 audio on Asus P9x79 Pro - problem

Hi,

recently I've purchased a decent rig based on Asus p9x79 pro.

For the last 7 years, I have been using my beloved Creative SoundWorks S750 7.1 speakers and Sound Blaster X-Fi card without any problems on different PC rigs.

I've hooked up speakers to onboard sound card via standard cable 3x jacks, and 2 speakers don't work at all. Doesn't matter if I plug in jacks in to different ports or change settings on the sound card it will make no difference - front left & side left never work !

Any ideas on the solution?

Might sound like a stupid thing to say, but best start of with the obvious first. You are plugging directly into the output ports on the sound card, im sure you are, but just to get that out of the way.

Other things to check
Are you using the latest drivers, not the ones that you got on a cd 7 years ago?
Have you still got an older PC you can check the card is working properly on?
What OS was your last rig running, and what are you running now?
Are you 100% sure the card is seated correctly? Sometimes it is hard to tell, have you removed it and tried re seating it fully?

From the looks of it your motherboard also supports 7.1, so you could use that to see if it may be a fault with the speakers themselves. Best make sure all drivers for the soundcard are uninstalled before you try that to avoid any confusion for the hardware.

That's all I have got for now, the answers to those questions may help narrow the problem down.

what mantadog said. but also if you are using win 7. right click on the volume meter bottom right, then go to playback devices, then you need to enable your soundcard and set it to the default device. And you could disable the onboard audio.

Currently I'm using onboard sound card NOT the X-Fi (its PCI card not PCIe) as it would NOT fit new rig!
Jacks are plugged directly to the onboard sound card.
I've used drivers supplied with PC and then updated to the newest ones.
X-Fi card still works fine on old machine and speakers as well, it was Windows 7 Pro 64bit, current machine is as well Win 7 Pro 64bit.

OK I see, I misread the OP.

So your getting sound out of all but 2 speakers in a 7.1 setup. Have you pushed all the buttons in Realtek audio manager? I know you said you changed settings in it so I presume you tried everything, But you don't say if it was realtek or windows settings you are using. I only have rubbishy speakers so ic ant test it fully but if you set it to 7.1 you get a bazillion options for enabling and disabling different speakers.

if you go into the hardware and sound section of the control panel, open up manage audio devices then select your speakers with a double click. Are all 3 jacks showing as plugged in? (mine just has 1 labelled rear 3.5 mm jack but I presume you will have more) if so go along to "levels" tab and click the balance button. Are all the sliders set to 100%, or at least not 0? If that all seems ok I would go ahead and click the advanced tab and reset everything to default.

if your still stuck go back and open up the 'manage audio devices' again and click your speakers with a single click and now click 'configure' on the bottom of that page, select 7.1 and configure.

yeah just 2 speakers out of 7 are not working,

tried everything what you have said before and nothing helped...
