4x16GB 3600Mhz RAM possible for this spec?

Hi everyone,

I have configured the below PC for gaming. I'll be playing Cities Skylines with tonnes of mods, so I'm looking for 64GB of RAM. When configuring though, it seems that I'm not able to select 4x16GB 3600MHz RAM blocks, but only the 3200MHz version, or 2x16GB 3600MHz blocks. Is there a good reason for this? Would I have to buy the additional 2x16GB 3600MHz blocks and install manually?

Corsair seems to have the blocks available on their website, so I was wondering why I have to "downgrade" to 3200MHz to be able to get a total of 64GB of RAM at 3600MHz.

Thanks!

Hi I have nio idea why you cannot choose 4x16GB 3600Mhz but only 3200MHz. There was an issue for AMD Zen 3 motherboards, early on, where 4 sticks of 3600MHz could cause instability and PCS was informing people that it was safer to go with 3200MHz. Perhaps it's a hangover from that issue. You can always ring them up.

I would say though that the performance differential between 3200 CL16 and 3600 CL18 is, on average, very marginal. For some apps, video editing say, the higher frequency can be noticeable, for others the low CAS is better.

I'd also mention that, at least when I last checked in mid 2021, that both 3200 CL16 and 3600 CL18 16GB DIMMs, were both the same Micron B-die 17nm 1Rx8 downbins. Corsair was simply putting different labels on the same thing and charging a bit more for the one with the 3600 label. Both were actually slower in most apps than the Micron D-die 20nm 2Rx8 they'd been using the prior year. This though was reflected in the lower prices.

Personally, I have 3200 CL16 Micron D-die 20nm 2Rx8 which is just run at 3600 CL18. Never an issue.

I suspect if you were to call them, they would sort it for you. I wanted 4 x 8gb 3600, but the configurator wouldn't let me. I just bought an additional 2 x 8gb later from the upgrade configurator.
