So now I'm a bit stuck. A PCS Clevo with Intel or go on the hunt again for a competitor that has Ryzen :x

Yeah that's TongFang again. Last experience with one of those has left me dead set against buying another. PCS' Clevo models have always been great for me. Thanks all the same though. Think i mentioned in another post, they're competitively priced.
pcs have a new laptop with amd not intel

After some debate I risked it and ordered a Recoil last week with RTX 3080. Spoke to sales and tech support to verify it was the full fat mobile rtx3080 although I was told there was no resizeable BAR.

After a few days, turned out the 11900K was unstable in the system so I downgraded to an 11700K, which meant it wasn't ready for collection until today.

Happily, I can confirm the RTX3080 has resizeable BAR. :) Saves me doing a shady flash at somepoint with NVflash. Obviously it doesn't mean everyone's will be but I'd be surprised going forward if they weren't.

Biggest disappointment of my life... Firing up ghostrunner and getting 9FPS with raytracing enabled lol. Boo. Still copying across my steam library etc but I downloaded that first to see what it ran like, guess it's poorly optimized.

Anyways. Just wanted to confirm that resizeable BAR is a thing. I've emailed sales and support to let them know.

EDITED TO ADD... I am a moron. I only had one of the two power bricks connected.

plugging in the second immediately kicked the fans into life and when I re ran Ghostrunner, 70+ FPS on max settings with RT on. That's more like it. This thing is a beast. DLSS off.

Anyway yeah, resizeable BAR.

What's BAR ?
Resizeable BAR is a new feature where the previous limit that the CPU had on its available VRAM allocation has basically been removed. Previously it was quite limited at around 256MB but now the limit has been entirely removed. Means you can pre load a huge amount of assets and textures straight into VRAM which means the GPU can process it much faster. ATM it's brand new so only offers a few percentage increase in FPS (up to about 10% apparently), but it will no doubt get better in time

Ghostrunner for example shows my video RAM as 32GB total, despite the card having only 16GB (only??!?)

Sorry, I though it was this thread that had the BAR discussion, perhaps I remembered incorrectly.

So, while i was asking for some news about my friend laptop (thanks again to all the people who help my that time), i asked to pcs if they think they'll have other 17 amd laptop chassis because "tongfang reputation"
And so, the answer is "we are looking at getting more AMD based laptops in, but I have no further information at this time I'm afraid, no dates or manufacturer of the chassis"
If this can help you to chose to wait or go on ...

To be fair, PCS are operating in a competitive marketplace so I can well understand why they won't divulge future plans or suppliers. Intellectual property is nearly the most valuable commodity a business has, second only to their staff. Loose lips sink ships. ;)

Totally agree with Ubuysa.
Also, imagine they told: "in a 2+ months we'll be offering our best Zen3 machine. Hold on and sit tight".
How would the current Zen3 offering would be affected in those next 2 months then? Would they sell more or less after that statement?
Go figure.. ^^

So i agree with both of you ^^

The point of my previous post was just to say that, in futur, they may/will have other chassis ;)

I took intel for the 3080 and thunderbolt but my heart choose was the Ryzen ! The score here bellow for 11800H is from mine, other from Internet.

Also in gaming, max TDP is the one given by PC Specialist, 135W maximum (yesterday, on RDR2, I was always at 130W).
