17.3" Ionico - WTB - Need Info

Hi,

2 years ago, I have purchased a top spec 17.3" Defiance V laptop (i7-8850H). It served me well.

Now I want to buy an Ionico 17.3".
But before I buy it, I would like to see some benchmarks and thermals of it running because the Defiance had problems keeping the CPU cool.

Even after applying Liquid Metal as cooling compound to both the GPU and CPU the Processor would reach over 86° and thermal throttle while at max fan speed.
And you could grill a steak above the ESC-key.
(Yes the fins were dust free. Even a solid under-volt didn't change much.)
This was on a rendering / DNN training workload (AI).

And since the support wouldn't come back to me with anything specific I thought I'd ask here if there is anyone willing to offer me more information.

Can confirm: this chassis is nowhere to be seen, yet, in any review for any remarkable different rebrand name it might have (I know that because I pre-ordered my Ionico. And just received a PCS email today that it's still missing for the production to start..)
This chassis can be called Max-17, Illegear Selenite Pro, Mechrevo Umi Pro 3 (I think only in the 15 form factor). Yet. Nobody seen one.
Should you find something about it, post it here. I'll do my part if able to. ;)

Still, the new Control Center should allow you to set max Temperature for CPU, max temporary and sustained Power limit for CPU, max TGP for GPU, how much Dynamic Boost for GPU. Should, as every other Tongfang 2021 have it now (check notebookcheck for some screenshots of the new CC or PM me).
But we actually are not 100% sure those functions will appear in the PCS customized one. I think mostly yes, but some might be locked. All that said, with this CC or similar utilities (e.g. Throttlestop) you should amend the PL for the CPU and lower a bit the thermals if wish.

Sorry if this is off topic, but I've had a RMA (changing from a Vyper to Ionico) so on the site there's no production status and I'm not included in the Ionico email update as its done as a suborder rather than a full order.

What did the email say as regards to any dates/how long it's going to take to get the chassis in ahead of yesterday's supposed delivery?

On sunday 14 I received the standard 'every 5 days' progress email stating that my assembly phase had changed from 15 to 19. Ok
Today, so even before that new deadline, I received a generic email (with my order number) stating (I'm not copy/pasting as it is in italian):
Your order is ready to enter production.
BUT we miss still something to start the production. The following part is missing:
- IONICO chassis, QHD 165 Hz etc.
We'll let you know when we get the part and start production ASAP.

I then contacted Italian PCS number (veeery fast, less than 30 second queue) and they stated yes, probably blocked at customs, don't know but delivery isn't arrived to them yet. He doubts producion will start the 19 as previously promised. But I should still continue to receive the 5-days email. I'll get next the 19, precisely.

I wonder we'll all know better once PCS finally update some of the estimates in ther website. Saying 'Out of stock, due 10 or 15 of Februrary' now is a joke.

EDIT: wow RMA exchange for free into the Ionico is very professional on their side. You won the lottery. No less than a RTX 3060 at 115W and QHD display 165 Hz definitely smash any past generation.

Haha, I wish it was for free, I did have to pay the difference unfortunately but I was very happy to pay the difference for an upgrade to 3070 from. 2060. Thanks for letting me know and I may get in contact with you personally in the future around the future date to see if they have made any updates regarding the order.

It looks like they have updated their website now to the 3rd of March which is very disappointing as its becoming a huge wait now for the laptop as I ordered first week of December.

Yep. Today I got an email again stating they don't have the product yet and are pressuring the vendor. THEN they update the website.. Uhm. I wonder if I fall into their 3rd March territory. We'll see at next planned email I guess.

It could be one of two things:

1) All the Feb 15th order has been filled out for what they have ordered on this shipment and the future orders will be delivered 3rd March

2) they have no idea when the current shipment so this is a estimated date to give us some idea

3) this is the current date they have been told the shipment is going to come in and this is when we could expect our laptops to start going into production.

Let's hope for number one.

Doubt on the 2. That'd be PCS yesterday, with an estimated in the past.
If there is an allotment already shipped to UK which had to be arrived the 15th but is blocked somewhere just for a few days we don't know yet. If my next email says '3rd March assembly' we know Chinese carrier had a very good Chinese New Year rest and the whole pallet was parked there...
I'll keep you updated.

And by the way I ordered the 27th January and know people ordering even before, like 21 as soon as those appeared, yet with not production started.

Yeah, if you could keep us updated that would be brilliant! The phones are close to 3 hours wait here and over 5 days wait for email but you seem to be having better luck getting through via your Italian ways.

I am simply waiting the planned assembly mail PCS is generally delivering every 5 days. If that keeps coming. If it doesn't by the 19th, yeah, I'll try to contact the Italian PCS phone number, definitely less crowded than main one. Yet, doubtful with same type of info..

Wrote just now to the Live Chat. Every Ionico (and presumably every laptop RTX30 from China at this point, as any Clevo/Tongfang have the same expected date) is coming to PCS not before the 3rd of March.. :confused:

They then confirmed my order is in that batch. There isn't anything arrived before. Be lucky if we get anything by half of March at this point. Hope deliveries don't get any more delays... 🤞

I ordered my Iconico 26th Jan. Still on pre-production 16 working days. It seems like PC Specialist have yet to receive any chassis?

Damn brexit. It's unfortunate. I was hoping to have my laptop soon. Oh well. Hopefully they can start building them before 3rd March.

Well I think custom between China and UK was high enough before. But truth is that now they (customs) have to deal with any other parcels in/out the EU..
However most of the problem might be in the Chinese New Year. Most of the cargo carriers, fabs etc. closed for like 15 days in China. Probably PCS got promises to get deliveries before that. Instead they didn't.
I do hope our pallets while in China isn't forwarded to more willing to pay Chinese miners, that's it.

As of today the parts are now due on March 22nd, has anyone pre production status changed? Ordered my Iconico mid January and I’m beginning to get disheartened.
