1440P Build Questions

Hi Peeps, now that SpyderTracks was helpful in answering my finance questions I need some help from you experts on a build. I used to keep up with all the hardware but I haven't brought a new PC in 6 years so i'm behind these days. I want to move into a 1440p set up and wondered what people had for there's?

Looking at something that would output at least 60FPS for most modern games and if I could use some of the basic Ray Tracing elements, that would be a bonus...

* The 7800 XT (16gb) caught my eye after looking at benchmark tests online - Or is this overkill and a cheaper card would do similar results? Been 20 years since I left NVIDIA for a Radeon. (Currently got a GTX 1060 6gb)

* 16 or 32 GB DRR5 Ram? is 32 overkill or future proof as more games seem to want 16 not 8 anymore.

* Ryzen 5 7600XT

* Not sure on the motherboard TBH?

* Never tried a M.2 SSD either

* Also my last two PC's had liquid cooling but they have been nosier than I liked and I hear fans are much quieter these days than before?

So my budget is a bit more flexible due to the finance option and a build I'm currently playing around with is around £1500 (I saved some money by using my own Windows 10). Don't think I would like to go higher.

There are aspects I'm not sure about still though...

You've saved a bit by using your own Windows licence, but £1400 is really 1080p territory, and 1440p is around the £1900 mark (that's with the £100 for Windows removed).

However, I would say that you'd want a smaller, but faster, primary SSD for the boot/apps/launcher drive (e.g. a 512GB Solidigm P44 Pro), and a larger, but slower, secondary 1-2TB SSD (e.g. 1-2TB Solidigm P41 Plus) for games installs as a lot of modern games require installation to an SSD to perform properly.

Is the 2TB HDD there for general storage (docs, videos, etc.) or where you hoping to use that for games too?

You've chosen very slow RAM, which would be fine for an office machine, but will reduce your gaming performance by about 10-15%. But yes, 32GB is the recommended amount nowadays.

The AK620 cooler will be fine for the 7600X.

The 7800XT GPU is perfectly fine for high raster and lower-end ray tracing at 1440p.

Case is at the very budget end of the Corsair range, so even the 4000D would be a better option, but we'd need to know your MAX budget to see if there's any point tweaking the components to suit.

32GB should be the standard for now. You want 6000Mhz though, 4800 is far too low end.
7800XT is decent value but it's going to tank with Raytracing on. You really want to look at a 4070 Super for this as a minimum, budget is restrictive though.
I wouldn't opt for a stand alone M2 drive and I certainly wouldn't opt for a PCS offering for the primary.
Cooler quality depends on what you spend. You need to opt for Corsair for something decent in the AIO list. The AK620 is a good cooler when paired with reasonable airflow. Not sure I would opt for the 3000D personally, it's quite small. With the lower end AMD chips the cooler will pair well though.

Thanks for the replies in particular the changes to the SSD Drive and comparing the 7800 and 4070 Super, which for around 20 quid more does seem like a better choice. I'm still trying to keep it within the 1500-1599 range including a weekend shipping (which is a must due to work) and this build is what I have.

Still some questions - I presume I shouldn't go cheaper on the motherboard and Ryzen (for example the 7600 instead of 7600 X). I'm still going back on forth on Liquid Cooling or keeping the AK620 - I have a thing about annoying noises bugging me and I would like something quiet but obiviously does the job still.
