1440p/144hz/gsync gaming with £2k~ budget

After 6ish years of gaming on the Optimus V (still no sign of dying), I have decided to upgrade. Since I have the space for a Gaming PC now and the disposable income to support it, I'm looking at ultra settings on a 1440p/144hz/gsync monitor (to be purchased, recommendations welcome, 27inch) with 60+ fps. Ultimately I would want this rig to max Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p 60+fps, though I'm aware that the requirements haven't been released yet. My budget is around £2000 + £400 for monitor, though obviously the lower the better but if justified I'm willing to stretch the budget. I have peripherals, so only monitor and pc needed.

This will be my first pc, so forgive me if I'm making some glaring mistakes in terms of balance or actually needing certain components. I chose the case because it looked sweet, not sure if it has sufficient cooling or space for the spec selected. I know that AMD's new crop of CPU's is all the rage because it beats intel on price and sometimes perfomance (does it in this case?), but that's where my knowledge ends. Will this CPU bottleneck the 2080 Super on graphically intensive games? Motherboard I just went with standard, no idea there. 16GB of high speed ram, again not sure if overkill. I chose the RTX 2080 Super because according to reviews it will be sufficient for 1440p gaming, but can I max graphically demanding games like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and hopefully Cyberpunk 2077 and the like (to give some examples) with 60fps+? M.2 ssd because it's faster, 2TB to suit all my needs (games, media, programs). Power supply: the selector said I should go with 550w, then went for the better rated one. Cooling wise I prefer none liquid cooling, I don't think I need it, however for longevity's sake as well as temps and noise I added a decent looking cooler. Unfortunately I won't be able to connect my pc via lan (trust me), I have a Asus RT AC68U AC1900 router with 200mb~ fibre optic, hence the AC1900 wireless card. I know that my current total comes to over £2k, it was literally just a mock up to be fine tuned. I have the patience to wait up to a couple of months if there are components to be released that would or should be considered. If not I'm likely to buy it rather soon. I have an eye on future proofing the rig, if there are any obvious inclusions I would be grateful for the advice.

Thank you in advance for your advice and help

My machine arrives tomorrow, with a broadly similar goal to yourself. Like you, I'm replacing an older PCS laptop and looking for 1440p/144hz.

Monitor wise I use an Acer Predator XB271HU, which should meet all your requirements pretty much spot on if you're going Gsync. It's a very nice piece of kit and reviews pretty much top of the range for 1440p in that size category. It'll go to 165hz if you want to push it.

Not sure the processor bump is giving you much for your money, the X series is for overclocking, and your processor isn't going to be the bottleneck anyway.
Possibly consider a 570 series motherboard, as they seem to be designed to benefit of the Ryzen 3 series chips? Better port selection as well.

In terms of your spec, I'm not sure you need the processor cooler, I believe the standard cooler for AMD chips is very good and should be more than sufficient. Although I'm guessing there's a noise reduction benefit on the one you have chosen.

I went with a quieter power supply, the RXm line is semi-passive.

The GFx card is very nice, but potentially a bit of overkill for 1440p gaming. If you feel you can afford it, I'd say it's great, but you could probably get everything you need from a 2070 Super, and the saving would give you the budget for a good quality monitor like the Predator.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Stepped the CPU down to AMD R5 3600 from R7 and the M.2 ssd from 2TB to 500GB + 1TB SamsungEvo Plus ssd, used the savings to get a better motherboard, add external drive (always handy), upped the power supply to a fully modular one and added cooler master thermal paste.

For a monitor I have my eye on the Dell S2716DG 27 inch TN 1440p/144hz/gsync for £400.

In total comes under £2400.

Any insights or advice on the build and changes are much appreciated.

Any testimony on screens or the Dell above?

Thanks in advance

I’ve got the same dell monitor and swear by it, both performance wise and visual design style. It’s a fantastic monitor for the price!

After some more research I have settled on the Dell S2716DG 27 inch TN 1440p/144hz/gsync. I may add another cheap 1440p screen in the future as a companion screen for multi-tasking.

I was also looking at the Acer Predator XB271HUAbmiprz 27 inch TN 1440p/165(OC)/gsync and it's IPS sibling, however the IPS is out of my price range and the screens on the Acer Predator itself seem to have build quality inconsistency issues which I would rather not gamble on given the price.

Regarding the case, it is a very open case (optimised for cooling) and so noise dampening is something to think about (living with others). I am likely replacing the 3x Dynamic X2 GP-14 (2x front, 1x back) with 3x Noctua NF - A14PWM which from my understanding are very effective for cooling and quietness.

All in all the build should be well cooled and therefore not as loud (as well as having quiet fans) which is the best that can be done short of choosing a quieter case I think.

In total the build at the moment looks like this:

+ 3x Noctua NF - A14PWM (replacing case fans) £20ish
+ Dell S2716DG 27 inch TN 1440p/144hz/gsync £400ish

Looking at gaming on Ultra settings on a 1440p/144hz/gsync screen in addition to general computer use. Could someone tell me if there are any problems or balance issues with this spec. Any comment or testimony on the above Noctua fans? If nothing else needs changing or improving then I think this will be the spec I'm going with.

Again thank you in advance for the help and thank you @SpyderTracks and @Bystander

Looks good, and yes, the noctua fans are about the best you can get for performance at low sound.

Sweet, then the above is what I will be ordering.

Much appreciated on the help. I remember there being a sort of +1 credit system for good content/help, not sure if it has been replaced by anything or just deactivated, if so let me know. The customer service from PCS as well as the friendly forum is what has led me to this return purchase, can't say i'm dissappointed :D

It’s just the like button in the bottom right now, but same effect.
