100% Disk usage

Recently got a new pc a couple months ago and i keep having the same issue over and over. I factory reset the pc a few weeks ago and it seemed to sort the issue but it's back to doing the same thing.
Even when not doing anything my disk usage will sit at 100% and not really move. Everything will take really long to then load and occasionally crash before it finishes loading. Overall when this happens the pc is just slow and sluggish and takes a long time to do anything.
So just wondering if anyone has a good fix instead of having to factory reset every few weeks.

Is this a PCSpecialist machine? Can you post your full specs from the order page?

I haven't uninstalled it before but from the looks of things i can't seem to find bullguard on this pc. When looking for the anti virus on this pc it says avg. So not entirely sure what has happened there.
I am pretty bad with all the anti virus and knowing major stuff with pc's at the minute as am new to having 1. So sorry if anything i say sounds stupid.

That will be the issue. I’m betting you have AVG and Bullguard installed. AVG is essentially malware these days and gets bundled into a lot of dodgy installers. 2 AV programs running concurrently would cause exactly the issues you’re describing as the scanners battle for access to the same files.

You’ll need to fully uninstall AVG and then check in programs and features to see if Bullguard is there.

Ok thank you. I have fully uninstalled avg now and can't find bullguard in any program or file. So hopefully that is the issue fixed. Thank you very much for the help.

Where are you looking for Bullguard?

I would be extra safe and install malwarebytes free and do a full system scan including root kits. The fact AVG is on there at all is concerning and suggests a dodgy installer has been used. If the system is compromised then any existing scanner will be compromised. Malwarebytes is designed for this exact purpose and far more resilient.

Also, you need to make sure windows defender is active now that you’ve uninstalled AVG otherwise your system is completely unprotected.

Yeah i plan on getting an ssd just have to wait till work gets back to normal.

Also in the process of doing the malwarebytes scan. And finished with it saying no issues. So hopefully it's fixed the issue.

You need to do a custom scan including root kits, just clicking scan will only scan basic system folders.

It's likely AVG was installed when the OP installed some other bit of software that had AVG bundled and they didn't uncheck it in the installer.

I must admit I used to use AVG all the time and installed it on this machine out of habit, literally a piece of junk. Alarmed at everything and wanted to install loads of other AVG add ons to fix non existent issues.

Confined to the same bin as McAfee and Norton now, used to be a pretty decent program.

If you havent already have a look in Task Manager to see if you can identify the program thats hogging the drive
