Just saw a notification, happy to report back: The one above didn't work for UHD disks.
I got in touch with the guy from this MakeMKV thread, and purchased one for just under £120. It is a LG BH16NS40 with custom firmware. Message me for an email address.
It's a good drive, I've ripped over...
@sibun1 - Yes, the OS is on the M.2 drive. I'm up and running again with a bit of work to do, so I'll try that later.
@Martinr36 - If it's plugged in, I can't get to the BIOS, that's the odd thing. The computer seems to freeze at the setup screen.
If I plug it into a USB caddy, it doesn't...
Hi everyone, I decided to upgrade my storage drive and selected a Seagate Exos 10TB SATA.
However, if I replace my current (bog standard 3TB) SATA drive, the new drive makes a beeping noise (1 sec on, 5 sec gap).
Also, my computer won't get past the "press del to setup" screen, even if I press...

The only crashes I've had were due to NVIDIA graphics drivers and using NVIDIA broadcast. I uninstalled...
Here's a picture of the insides when I had just received it:
So it has the standard blu-ray drive and the H115i along the top.
They are fairly tight, but I didn't have problems (with that aspect) when updating the blu-ray drive, the cables behind it were fine.
@Ollybear - I'm not sure, I'm working on it today and I'd rather not turn it off. However, I do have the Corsair H115i RGB PLATINUM Hydro Series, with the fan-unit at the top, which fits comfortably.
I can see how that should work, but if you look at the first picture the area by the top tab is actually behind the blu-ray drive, it doesn't budge.
However, knowing that's how it's supposed to work, I opened it at the bottom, took off the front-fan, and twisted the whole panel slightly...
Hi there,
I have a lovely new desktop running great, and I'm trying to upgrade the blu-ray drive without disrupting anything else.
It should be straightforward, but the screw on the far (right hand) side is behind a panel, I can't seem to get to it.
Picture from the open side, where I can get...
If anyone is interested, this is the drive I went for: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1271398330?iid=264728850516
Apparently comes with firmware for reading UHD discs, and can still burn regular blu ray discs.
Yea, there's a disconnect (or not an easy connection) between a BD-XL disk and a 4k UHD disc. Could be the same thing, but it's hard to tell.
Given the prices of discs, I'm happy burning picture backups to (relatively) cheap 25GB discs, it's good to have a non-magnetic backup. I have a 42Mpix...
Hi everyone,
I've got an internal blu-ray drive (the standard PCS one), which I use for writing discs as a seprarate backup for my RAW pictures.
This drive doesn't read the newer 4k movie discs though, is there an internal drive out there that reads 4k discs and writes to any blu-ray type disc?
Just to confirm:
I just got a build with a AMD Ryzen 9 3900 12 Core CPU and the H115i, it rocks. Just converted ~20 blu rays, running all the cores at 100% and it stays in the 50-60C range (only a bit more than idle) without making more noise than at idle.
Just to note, PCS confirmed there was an issue with the build:
IMHO a pretty big error that could have had pretty negative results (particularly when setting off several handbrake jobs and walking away...).
Still, the new computer is up and running, currently restoring from my backup, so...
I couldn't see anything wrong, but I:
- opened up the lower cable area,
- moved the power supply back so I could see everything,
- pushed everything in,
- put it back.
- Took out the cable from the graphics card,
- put it back in.
And now it works!
I guess something just got un-seated in...
So my new desktop arrived today (spec here), but I'm not getting any output to the monitor.
Yes, yes, I did plug it into graphics card, not the motherboard!
I'm new to having a separate graphics card (having been on laptops for many years), but I assume the fans should spin?
I put it down on...
Long story short: Teams is a memory hog, so yes.
Teams, Slack, and quite a few other programmes are based on Electron, which is based on Chromium, like the Chrome browser. It includes most of a browser in the application so it tends to take a lot of memory.
Plus it's a whole lot easier to...
Personally I'd go for at least 16GB (in total) but another tip on Teams is to keep the window small when you've got video streams up.
Even on a high-spec machine I've had issues running presentations and Teams across two screens, but reducing the size of the Teams window really helped.
Hi folks,
I've ordered a new build with a Fractal Define 7 case and Corsair H115i RGB PLATINUM CPU Cooler and I'm wondering whether to request a particular fan setup?
My understanding is:
- The case has 9 possible fan locations.
- The case comes with 1 rear and 2 front fans.
- The H115i takes...
