Thanks, really appreciate the feedback :)
I don't think I've ever used Bluetooth on my desktop so it isn't something I've had on my tick list. That may change in the future, but as all of the rooms in my house where I may use the machine have ethernet ports, I don't think the card is something...
Neither of you are helping 😁😁😁
So... as I edge to a G9 (in more ways than one 😏), I think I've finalised the PC spec. all is the same as the last post, except the disk config. I need a far bit of storage and some of this can be slow to access, so I've jiggled the spec around to have a M.2 500GB...
I've not been able to find what I want in a normal 1440p monitor (curved, ISP, 144Hz+, G-Sync, HDR, high nit), so I'm seriously considering the G9 now... unfortunately the more I read about it the more I'm convincing myself it is the way to go!
Yeah, I could switch to a 3090 or push up a CPU grade, but the cost wouldn't justify the marginal increase in performance
Hmm... quick read and they are designed for NAS rigs rather than PCs. I'll do need a chunk of storage so could may go for a pair of 3TB Seagates as they still spin at 7200...
Appreciate the feedback! Slightly amended the spec but have a few clarifications / questions
RAM - I've bumped up the speed, but will stick with the 32GB for the time being as I can't see a use case for me where I'll need 64.
Disk - I've altered the layout a bit to have both a fast boot drive...
Hi,
I’ve decided it is time to replace my old PCS rig (see sig) with something a little more current and I’m looking for a bit of advice on CPU and motherboard options, and any other tips on the spec.
So my use case… outside of home office work I’ll mainly be gaming (Battlefield, Cyberpunk)...
Yeah, this would be a PCS build to replace my old PCS build.
I'll check out the G9 again, but I run 3 monitors at the moment and it provides flexibility for the way I work and game
Hi,

Well, I cancelled, waited a bit for the 3070 release... then impatience hit and decided I couldn't wait another 4 weeks so I've gone for a RTX 3080 paired with a Ryzen 9 3900 instead (with cooler and PSU upgrades as suggested above).
Now I just have to wait so more!
I'm happy with the 1440p / 144Hz display for this as we'll still be using it for VR and the 3070 will drive a great experience there. As the 3070 is only slight more cash that the 2070S, it is a no-brainer for future proofing the build.
Yeah, an extra couple of weeks will not make a...
And so the 3070 is announced which is a step ahead of the 2070 S and around the same price. Think may have to put this order on hold and wait for the 3070 release...
Looks like this is hitting build on Tuesday... with a bit of luck may have it for next weekend. :)
Checked finances and decided to get a worthwhile monitor to pair with the system... Ordered a ASUS TUF VG27AQ (27", 1440p, IPS panel, 144Hz, G-Sync, 1ms)... should do the job!
Thanks for the thoughts on these -- I'll have a little play on the config and see what I can do (dropping the HDD to 2TB may help).
Indeed -- upgrades for the future!
My personal build is in my sig (and is quite old now), but the kid's is way lower spec'ed than that and is struggling these days on almost anything!
CPU: AMD FX 6300, 6 core 3.5Ghz
GPU: GTX 750Ti
Memory: 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz DIMM
No SDD!
VR headset is an Oculus Rift S. My rig copes well...
It's been quite a while since I've needed to upgrade, but my kid's rig just ain't cutting in any more! I've had a bit of a tweak on specs based on some builds on the forum and looking for some feedback on the spec below. To help put the rig in to context:
Budget: £1,500 tops
Uses: Primarily...
Hi,
I have a bit of an issue with my rig (specs in sig below). When I boot the machine the CPU temperature quickly rises to over 80C and then the computer shuts down to protect the processor. The motherboard and gfx card are running at ambient room temperature and the various fans in the case...

My kids are starting to get into Minecraft and the Lego games and I'm toying with the idea of getting them a cheap and cheerful rig. I'm looking for something that could push out around 60 fps at 1280x1024 with high settings on Minecraft, Lego and other lower-end games. I'd need an OS (and...
