Indie game recommendations

I so admire your dedication, you must be a dream to work with!
When I set my mind to something, I work hard to get it done. I wanted to play as many game demos last week as I could, so I did. I often put a fair bit of effort into my work, but maybe don't work quite this hard.

I do really enjoy trying out new games!

Repurposing my old Steam Next Fest thread into a generic indie recommendations thread.

Whispers of the Eyeless is a game that I've had my eye on for a while and played the demo during a previous Next Fest. It's got an Early Access launch this week and I'll be continuing to monitor the game.

The Roottrees Are Dead is a game I've been playing over the last week or so and came out last month. You're a private investigator trying to piece together a family tree for the Roottree family - an accident has killed 5 members of the wealthy family and you're tasked with trying to figure out who the heir to the family company is. It's doing well with an Overwhelmingly Positive rating based off nearly a thousand reviews so far. Puzzle games are fun and there's a few twists and turns along the way as there should be in any good detective/mystery game.

As a follow up, I completed this today and in my view it's probably the best deduction puzzle/mystery game since Return of the Obra Dinn.

That looks interesting, added to steam wishlist
Both Obra Dinn and The Roottrees are worth a play - the art style of Obra Dinn is so unique though!

Being lost at sea, as a seafarer, is absolutely something I would not experience, even though the game itself looks interesting
That makes a lot of sense. The game The Return of the Obra Dinn is about exploring why the ship got lost at sea. Not sure that's any better for a seafarer such as yourself, but I found it interesting!

I’ve just discovered that the wonderful part Russian doll simulator, part puzzle game Stacking is on Steam!

It’s not new (I used to play it on the Xbox 360) but it’s very charming, as you’d expect from a Tim Schafer game. Would highly recommend it… might even buy it myself at some point and do a playthrough for old times sake

We discussed your love for Stacking when it popped up in a Humble Bundle back in 2023. My spare copy has been in the giveaway thread ever since.

Someone (@Martinr36) may want to claim it to shrink theier wishlist and grow their library!

Back in 2023? A lot has happened since then, forgive my absent mind. @Martinr36 should really take you up on that offer, it’s a peach!

A Game About Digging A Hole looks like it could be relaxing and even therapeutic. The fact it's also got the Horror tag suggests not. I'm intrigued!

Rebellion Developments are a British studio best known for the Sniper Elite series. Their next game is shaping up to be something very special indeed. Atomfall is effectively a Fallout/STALKER-style game set in a post-apocalyptic England. The game events will take place in the aftermath of an event similar to the fire at Windscale (now Sellafield).

I'm really looking forward to this one, it looks great and the Sniper Elite games were very accurately done

2,500 demos in the newly started Next Fest should keep me busy for a bit. New recommendations will probably fly at a rate of knots depending on what catches my eye!

DON'T NOD's development teams have been pretty solid with Life Is Strange among others. One of their upcoming titles is Koira. It's cute, wholesome and features hand-drawn dogs. It doesn't take much to sell me on the idea of a game, but I'm onboard already!
