Best gaming PC for £1700

Greetings,

I am looking for a build that would perform decently for the next 5 years.
I don't have a particular list games I want to play, but I want to have a leaway to play any game on high settings that are on the market right now. Not planning to stream, maybe a little bit of VR, but mostly just normal occasional gaming.

My budgest is £1700, £1750 at most.

My monitor currently is:
27'
60Hz

I used my friend's build as a base, but maybe there is newer stuff that I should consider and replace?

Yeah, we can do a whole lot better for you. The biggest problem you have is that monitor: it's really not a gaming monitor at all. I'm going to suggest upgrading it to something 1440p and 144Hz. Monitor pricing is horrible right now, but you can get IPS displays like the Gigabyte M27Q for just over £300, or the slightly inferior VA displays like the AOC Q27G2U for just under.

Now, I'm not sure it's realistically possible to get down to £1450 for a 1440p-capable gaming rig. You can get pretty close, though, so maybe you could stretch that budget or buy the monitor in a month or two?

Thank you, you got me very intrigued.

I would be totally fine buying new monitor later and use current one for a couple of months, and still spend 1700 on the PC itself

For £1700 this is what I would go with. I would probably push for the 980 pro M2 drive for the primary but keeping it sensible-ish. It's imperative that you get yourself a 1440p 144hz monitor to pair with this rig though, it will be completely wasted on that monitor.

Sounds amazing thanks!

One more question:
I just realised that there is an option to configure mini-pc, I quite liked the idea of a small form factor PC. Is it realisitic for a gaming pc and is it that much more compact to be worth considering?

I configured this to match your suggestion to an extent, wdyt?

I would avoid anything "mini" for any sort of performance based system. It's just too small a form factor to fit in such heat generating parts. There are massive limitations as well and you have significantly reduced a number of areas to fit the case (I guess).

I wouldn't go down this route personally.

Edit: Just realised you've selected an 11 series build. This would be a very poor choice. The 11 series is very much the runt of the litter, the 10 series bests it in gaming. The 12 series is what you want to be looking at.

Two cents on small form factors... I hate them. All the downsides of a laptop with none of the positives

You're hamstringing yourself for no reason other than aesthetics and making everything much more difficult. Increasing costs and temperatures likely shortening the life span of the hardware

Small form factor is fantastic is non performance based computers. Gaming PC's it's like an oxymoron to me

That all makes sense, thank you for all your advices! Looks like I am going with the latest @Scott 's suggestion

What should I look for when it will come to choosing a monitor in the future? Anything that is 1440p and 144hz?

I'd suggest 1440p, 144Hz (or more), an IPS panel, no bigger than 27".

Good options include the Gigabyte M27Q, the Asus VG27AQ, the Dell S2721DGF...
